I think they have one spot left to fill and i hope like heck it would be an African American . In the year 2013 , in the sport of track&field its no way you can put together a whole damn staff and not have a perosn of color on your staff no wayyyyyyyyy . we shall see maybe they will
What is going on with Illinois finding a new women's Head Coach?? This seems like its some "STALL" tactic towards the athletics. It's a Nationally ranked team!! It should not take this long or be this hard to find a replacement. Am I missing something cause last time I checked they have a really young team who wouldn't want to be apart of that!! The AD AND EVERYONE invovled in the hiring process should be ashamed its almost embarrassing !
The above poster is obviously a moron and knows nothing about the hiring process and timeline involved in finding the best applicant.
Thanks for the kind words..... Illinois situation is very fishy and you have no clue, but thanks for the response :)
Illinois women's position is down to two or three and the stronger rumor is they will clean house.
While long delays in coaching searches can, of course, be due to not finding the right person, turned down by candidate #1, #2 etc. its more often (no surprise) just about saving money. Other than for cc and starting practice in August, the way it relates to track, if an administrator can save a month's salary at a time that they don't view as crucial to program health they will do that. Naturally there is a risk to that strategy as many program organizational actions, budgeting, equipment purchases need to be occurring and you might lose some very good candidates who won't wait around.
Yes, losing very good candidates, but have they considered losing very good athletes that I'm pretty sure are in Limbo.

Wow this was a shocker to me. Anyone know why Fritz left?
But I feel that with Watson coming in and his hammer knowledge and every other event as well the K-State throws squad is going to take off.

Explain how they are "losing" very good athletes?
I don't disagree. A program with good kids who have options (like Spencer) of either turning pro. or transferring with her old coach or somewhere else, should make admins. step it up. There should not be an extended period of time without more than an interim hc and assistants in limbo as there is little stability for current athletes, assistant coaches (unless one is getting the position)and potential recruits.
How do you explain transferring?
1) needs release from Athl Department (unlikely )
2) what schools have much scholarship remaining (out of state tuition is very high at most institutions)
3) in most cases, when transferring, credits are lost; Progress Towards Degree is delayed thus ineligible
So... is transferring really an option? (It's NOT that simple)

If you have a redshirt to use/burn/catch up on credits it IS easy and can be a really good idea if an admin is jerking the team around by not making a hire in a timely manner.
This does not have to be about the upcoming school year. They could now set in motion the actions to transfer and compete in 2014/2015. While some might not be willing to do so, others will to ensure they are in a stabile program and especially with the coach they view is best for them.
Some kids, right or wrong, go to schools in some cases for a coach (personality, connection, system/program). If the coach leaves, the athlete is left with the questions as to who the next coach will be (hc and/or asst.) and what type of program they will install. The lack of knowing what is coming is enough to get some people to jump.
The NCAA has rules in place to prevent kids from "jumping ship" every time there is a coaching change (which is very common).
Yes rules are in place however that has not prevented some kids from actually transferring-it still happens. The athletes, as they should, do have some rights.
Anyone hear who is interviewing for the UNO job?
So the Illinoos admin is treating the students poorly by taking their time to find a qualified hire? You'd prefer they hire any 'ol unqualified coach, then have students complain/threaten to transfer, then have to make another change?!!
How many times are you going to change your screen name?
While I mentioned Spencer as an example of someone with options since Illinois was specifically brought up go back to beginning and you can see I made comments about ath. depts. saving money by taking too long to hire coaches (I've personally witnessed months before hiring someone). This was not about Illinois specifically at least from my perspective. I said nothing like what you are suggesting. The OP had complaint, specifically, about Illinois.
I will say that yes, admins. should go out and find the best person, of course, but also be aware that if they drag their feet, there can be repercussions that negatively affect the immediate future of the program.
Anyways, some of us (myself included) have been responsible for some thread derailment so back to the coaching changes.
