If Gavin Kennedy went back to Illinois that would be great. Him and Jake Stewart would be a great team and could build a very strong men's distance team

Brian Forrestor from Akron could be a good fit at MSU as well. He has had a ton of success at Akron. Maybe time to make the move. Out of the previous candidates mentioned. Maag and Ridgway have the best resumes as far as production go.
Hear there may be some surprises out of one or more of the big 4 (OU/Clemson/LSU/aTM). These coaches all have connections at a level other than NCAA. Think about it...think history/recruiting connections/current athletes.
Heard Marvin and Althea are on board. Not sure about Debby.
Will Tennessee hire another personal friend of the head coach or someone with no SEC coaching background once again?

Connections:
Vanh worked in USATF coaching education with Lane and Schexnayder. Went to school with McRaven.
Clemson coach worked with Lane and Schexnayder at LSU.
Henry has worked with all of the above in some form or fashion.
Several pro athletes on campus at A&M, but I don't think any in the jumps unless you're talking about LaPierre.
My guess is that the connection you're talking about has to do with USATF or USTFCCCA?
Care to speculate on OU distance job?
Major DI assistant jobs that are open:
A&M - jumps
Texas - distance (other positions rumored to be filled?)
OU - sprints, distance, ?
LSU - distance
Anything else?

They better get someone in there who knows how to close deals. Mick has been awful at that over the years. It'd be a good move if they brought in someone who's younger (30ish), who has strong recruiting ties to the Midwest (IL, IN, MN, OH, MO) and could help with some of the middle distance talent they have.

What happened to the Irish lady?
She was definitely let go. No announcement and I've heard of no job posting, so not sure what's up. Glad I'm not a female distance runner at that school right now.

Gavin Kennedy hasn't been ANYWHERE long enough to tell if he'd be any good at all. He (as well as others) are still riding the "I was an assistant at Iona when we had 4 Africans take Iona to the NCAAs". What have all of those Iona coaches that were assistants done since leaving....

Did you miss the part where is said WOMEN's Coach at Illinois
When are you going to understand that getting jobs is mostly who you know!? It's all about connections and knowing the person you are hiring, or have a close friend who knows the person you are hiring. The head coach has to feel comfortable with who he or she is hiring and be able to trust them over anything else. If you don't know anyone elite in the NCAA Track and Field college system to help you get jobs, you will have a tough time breaking in.....
For the majority of the time Gavin was at Iona there was only one Kenyan. That Kenyan was Korir, who was personally recruited by Gavin and wasn't your typical case of recruit and win. After a terrible first year, Gavin and Santos had to adapt a lot for Korir and he became Iona's first ever NCAA champion.
With regards to other assistants that have left. Jason Saretsky has steadily built the Harvard program that looks to be in a good place after a good 2012-2013.
Jake Stewart replaced Gavin at Illinois and has had a first term that most likely exceeded expectations.
Isn't that job advertised Micks position? Does that mean he has been given the Wisconsin Directors job?
Where did Henry and Shaver begin? Where do many of their athletes come from?
you sir, are an idiot.
I assume you're talking about someone in the juco ranks re shacer and henry?
But that could mean anything. Are you speculating someone from one of those schools will hire a juco or community college coach? Or are you implying one of their staff members will head up a program that is being rebuilt at a formerly great juco program?
Any more word on whats up at Cal State LA?
