They're great. Much more convenient than a long sleeve shirt. They're super adjustable and if you get hot you can just take them off. Rolling up a long sleeve shirt is stupid. If it's too hot for a long sleeve shirt it's too hot for a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves rolled up. Plus you don't have to wash tons of long sleeve shirts. I can just wear the same short sleeve shirt all day and put arm warmers on to run.

Nothing screams TOOLBAG worse than wearing arm warmers.
So Evan Jager and Matt Tegenkamp are toolbags for wearing arm warmers?
But my Arm Warmers have stripes on them...

Tights serve a legitimate purpose. Arm warmers do not.
Except keeping your arms warm, of course.
Explain to me why elite women wear arm warmers but with a bare midriff. Explain the logic there?
Are all elite women contractually obligated to show off their tummy? Methinks so.

Your core generates the most body heat. The midriff allows for cooling.

But doesn't it take energy to generate that heat? And wouldn't that energy required to heat take away from racing?

Where are you going to put them then you take them off
If its going to arm up on the run enough to take them off then you don't need them in the first place. Are cold arms for 5 mins going to kill you
Vest and arm warmers is the most stupid thing ever unless you are paid to wear them
I used to think arm warmers were dumb until I started using them. I've never tried them in a race but if it's under thirty outside, I like the feel of them with a short sleeve shirt moreso than a long sleeve shirt.
I also like using my vest if it's really windy or a light rain.
there is no universal comfort factor when it comes to clothes. What you dont like doesn't mean it is dumb for another person.
If you need them yes, if not no. People on here need to stop being so obsessed with "how I look" when running. Kind of like the ultra runners who will only use handheld bottles and not packs as they don't look like ultra runners with a pack on.
Tera Moody rocks the socks!

^This.
I never even wear a shirt unless the Temp is below 40 degrees. Arm Warmers? Are you serious? I live in Houston and when temps get below 60 the people start wearing gloves and jackets. I scoff at them. I never wear even a shirt unless temp is below 40 - Get tough people! Not even getting tough - Think a bit! If it is 55 or even 45 - you do not need gloves, arm warmers, jacket - even a shirt!
I love my arm warmers. first got them to race in an xc race senior year, now i frequently wear them running with a t-shirt when its cold but not really cold
I've worn them in a few marathons, and even on my easy runs--GASP! Given the fact that your forearms bear the brunt of the wind and do not really do much during to generate heat, they tend to get colder easier (since your core warms up pretty easily). And as others have said, you can't take off a long-sleeve, and rolling up the sleeves is really annoying.
I wore arm warmers at Boston in '07 when the head wind and rain were crazy, and in two others marathons (OT's included) where it was pretty cold. In one case I was able to throw them to a friend, and in another I just threw them on the side, hoping to come back for them (never made it back to get them). In the big scheme of things, throwing out a $20 pair of arm warmers is worth it if you're trying to run a good race. Now that my best days are behind me, I'd probably just tuck the warmers in the side of my shorts.
If you don't like them, don't wear them. If you do, don't worry about the dudes who think they're hot sh-t because 1) they can "handle" the cold, and 2) think you look like a douche. We all have our own levels of comfort that help us physically and mentally to run our best. If yours happens to be different, so be it. (Not to say that I'm not a little bit hypocritical, as I think the long socks look terrible and would never rock them myself. But to each their own.)
You must be really cool.
It must be embarrasing to be stepping on that limp sock all the time...

Either carry them or tuck them into your shorts; they weight like 20g each. You don't always know when you start if it's going to be too cold for short sleeves.
Love my arm warmers! I picked up the habit from cycling and have grown very fond of them since. I'm guessing that people who scorn arm warmers live in climates without any sudden temperature changes. Along with just transitioning from a warm up to a race, arm warmers are great in non-humid environments, where wind and sunlight can really mess up the temperature.
