Thank you for your input. I know that judging 'how slow' a course is running on a given day is not an exact science. The guy that I am referring to split 1:22:33-1:22:35. It seems likely that he was/is in sub-2:40 shape.

*1:22:42 - 1:22:36 officially. Not sure where I got my numbers from. The idea remains the same...
I ran a 3:04:42, but would have run a sub-3 on a dry cold day. Several runners at the finish were also estimating they would have been 5 minutes faster if they weren't running in a car wash in a wind tunnel!
I think that's about right. I ran 2:43 and felt like I was close to 2:38 shape on a good day.

Aside from the conditions themselves, many of the elite bottles along with their gels were blown away. That's a pretty big deal even on an ideal day.

Can confirm this. I grabbed only 3 of my 8 bottles.
I ran a 2:51, I think I can do a 2:47.
Another friend ran 2:46, and was expecting a 2:44
Another got a 3:08, after training hard for a 3:05.
One more got a 2:55, had hoped for a 2:50.
So, based on this small sample, I think the wind and rain cost between 3 and 5 minutes.
The rain never relented, but the wind wasn't horrible for the first 6 miles, or the last 10. Those 10 in the middle, though, were brutal. Everyone was running in single-file trying to draft off someone else - I've never seen anything like it in a marathon. It was more like a bike race.
This sounds about right. I went for it from the start and ended up running 3:04. I was in ~2:50 - 2:52 shape.
A friend of mine went out expecting a ~2:25 and came in at 2:34.
The guys I know who went out conservatively were about 5 min off their fitness level.
Here are all of my splits from the race. Until the 22 mile mark I was right up with the leaders so we all were right around this pace. The wind was tough and those middle miles showed it. Don't mind my crashing and burning over those last few miles! I thought I was in low/mid 2:15 shape on a good day if it makes a difference (having said that, I've never run that fast before so I don't know what kind of shape I was really in). There were a lot of lead changes and surges but every time someone broke away they rejoined the pack in about 800m or so.
5:14, 5:09, 5:04, 5:05, 5:04, 5:05, 5:28, 5:30, 5:23, 5:14, 5:04, 5:14, 5:12, 5:18, 5:22, 5:11, 5:10, 5:10, 5:05, 5:15, 5:14, 5:12, 5:20, 5:30, 5:34, 5:40, 1:15
Lots of bottles were knocked over. At one station every bottle was on its side and I don't think anyone grabbed one. I wouldn't really use that as an excuse though because we had 8 different stations to choose from and water and Powerade were always available.
I had a similar experience with my splits (especially miles 6-11 or so). The group I was with had something like this:
5:21, 5:21, 5:19, 5:15, 5:14, 5:20, 5:40, 5:50, 5:38 then I lost track. It was like a fartlek for a while going against the wind then having the wind blowing sideways.
This says it all
Nice run Ordway! I would agree on the wind factor, rain did also become a factor as the roads became more flooded and potholes filled. I feel with the conditions that times could have been better, so you should feel confident that you could of been at least 3 minutes faster given better conditions.
