So running more than 25 miles a week or running faster than 8 minute miles is now considered extreme - for people over 50 years of age? Really?
So the time I spent training for marathons, doing speedwork, etc. was no better time spent than if I had spent all those hours in front of a TV drinking beer? Wow!
Seriously, do these people ever stop to think if their study passes the simple common sense rule?
Bottom line here: just because the study associated some runners who train hard with people who die young doesn't mean running is the cause. Correlation does not mean causation.
I know guys in their 50s and 60s who train for marathons every year and they all seem pretty healthy.
Moderation in all things is important but is training more than 25 miles a week really considered extreme and harmful?
