The PhDs often don't agree with each other, therefore, you can't take their word as gospel. For example, I bet you that a guy like Owen Anderson has quite different views than Snell. There are a lot of intricate processes that go on within the human body, and it is hard if not impossible to know about all of them. Plus people often tend to jump to conclusions quickly. I know that I've done so a number of times throughout my life. The trick is to try to realize when you've made a mistake. Regarding Lydiard, even though I still have a "lot" to learn about exercise physiology, I'm able to tell by his words that his knowledge of physiology isn't very extensive. Going by what I've read, he's been speaking in the same very simplistic terms for years. It seems as if he is stuck in a rut.By the way, since I brought up Owen Anderson, I certainly don't agree with all of his conclusions, but at least ways he's been willing to change his mind when new evidence is presented.

You don't have to do really long runs in order to reach top form. That's a myth .... Guys like Lydiard and Snell claim that .... [quote]dtm wrote:

Let's not forget that Snell has a PhD in Ex Phys, so he might know something!
