how do you lose a business over a hurricane? anyone who owns a house should have homeowner's insurance and those who own homes in flood plains should have flood insurance. that will protect them from any damage. if they don't have either and their houses get damaged, then they should have been saving the money they weren't paying on insurance all these years. if not, it's hard to feel too sorry for them.

Speaking of running, aren't two guys running for president? Is that part of the marathon or is that this 'election' I keep hearing about? Will they cancel that?

Quick FYI: that location is "Midtown East" or "Tudor City area." It's a couple of miles (and about five income brackets) from what most people would regard as the Lower East Side.

Even more minor heads-up: be sure to refer to the big local train station as "Grand Central Terminal," or just "Grand Central." It's not "Grand Central Station."

you are correct, it's midtown east. Not sure why I typed it with the wrong location (it'll only be my second trip to manhattan).

This location is called 'midtown' LES starts below 14th St.

If the craps really hits the fan tonight,as it is expected too, they will have no choice but to pull the event. The subway is the key to the whole recover in time.

I forced I'd guess to venture an opinion-- it gets pulled.

NYC police will not be able to/reluctant to muster the needed manpower for parade duty on Sunday.

and when you're on Houston street it's not pronounced like the city in Texas.

I'm heading to NYC Friday as well, but won't be running. Going to the Brooklyn Nets game Sat and Knicks/Giants games on Sunday (and was going to watch the marathon).

I was trying to use Priceline all last week, but hotels were soooo pricey. Today they've been basically cut in half because of all the people cancelling this weekend.

Still 50/50 if I'll still go (from Chi). Worried that NYC might be in bad shape, and that the sporting events might get cancelled as well.

Mary says it's on.

Ah such naievity and optimism that an insurance company will agree to pay out a storm damage claim in some sort of timely manner.
