That's what happens when you're only running 60-70mpw and everyone else is running 90+. Vig's program was designed solely for middle distance runners and nothing more.
I know the Maryland women are toward the bottom of the ACC, but I'm impressed with some of their individual performances. Some real improvements from a couple years back.

You obviously don't coach D1. A kid running 9:10 as a senior probably ran 9:20 or slower as a junior. If so, he's probably not getting a scholarship offer from a top-30 team (unless he's done something else much better).

Did you read my posts? One of my main points was that Va Tech's win was impressive in part because they have few high school studs on their team. My other point was that if you look at most top-30 type teams (e.g. the teams VT beat), most actively recruited athletes run 9:10 or better by the end of their high school careers.
For all those using words like "only" to suggest 9:10 high school 2-milers as not being studs, what DO you consider as "stud status"? Those are great times for high school kids, which may be why you see so many of the top collegiate programs being stacked with guys running low-9's for 2 miles out of high school. To imply these are not super talented kids is ridiculous.
this whole "stud" conversation began when I used the term 'high mileage studs'; never implying a particular time to that label. Several of these VT guys that ran on Sat ran fewer miles in high school than most top shelf girls. This can have a direct correlation to their times and performance explaining why several of them are excelling at VT and others with richer pedigrees may have peaked years ago in their high school programs.
