It's 2012 and the current mile AR holder is so irrelevant in the sport today (his finishing positions at the last few national team qualifier meets, anyone?) that he has to resort to publicity stunts like this to maintain media traction. So long as there are suckers who will bite at his name in a headline and speculate and exaggerate from his modest claims, crap like this will happen. I do wish it were otherwise, would be great to be wrong and see him run at a high level again at any distance, but Webb is now part of sports history, not its future.
