Does anyone know what baxter and cain are planning for post-season. Would be a shame if they went to different nationals.
I think I'd take Baxter on an XC course, though that could change if Cain has a solid showing in that NYRR 5k before the marathon

Baxter will probably do only NXN. If it's at all sloppy, my money's on Baxter, the strength runner. If the course is dry and fast (unlikely), Cain might have a small chance.
I know Baxter has been to NXN and knows the course, but i feel like she's making a mistake going there again. The Footlocker course seems to better suit her with the nasty hills and clean XC style (similar to Mt. Sac) and its also a very historic course (where she could possibly challenge another record). NXN is essentially a mud pit with some hay stacks and can never be a "record breaking" course because the conditions vary so drastically every year.
Cain will no longer be running high school races. The possibility of a showdown is therefore nil.

Assuming Baxter plans to defend her NXN title, which I think is a good assumption since her team is highly ranked in CA, sounds like a showdown is in store. Would have to still give the the nod to Baxter since Cain is so much more of a track talent and better at the shorter distances.

Cain is a Francie Larrieu Smith.
Baxter's team (Simi Valley) will most likely be invited to NXN again. If so, then that's where BAXTER will be. If the team DOES not get invited (unlikely but one never knows) then my guess is that she will go to Footlocker.
If she does NXN, will she double back the following week to Footlocker?? She did not do it last year as her coach was most likely holding her back. Anyone's guess if she will do it this year ??

No, because the FLW regional is the week before the final.
Baxter will want to defend her NXN title either way. I also find this disappointing because the Balboa course is perfect for her. However, I think she'll win NXN.
Cain will also do NXN but her strength (although it is improving very quickly) is still not quite at Baxter's level. I'd take Cain in 3200 or under on the track any day. And with a year of Salazar's training and more volume, next year my bets on her.
Ultimately, XC is the red headed stepchild here and Cain slaps her silly in any track race, that is, any race anyone cares about outside of some dorks on a running site.
Imagine if Cain was in the mt sac race. She would have gone sub 16. Actually, I cant wait to see her take down the 5k record on the track this spring. We all know she will get it, unless she has a freak injury come up.
What does Mt SAC time translate to on a flat 5k or track 5k? Any ideas?

I was referring to seeing Baxer take down the 5k, not Cain.

I'm not sure I follow this logic... if Baxter is more of a strength runner, why would she be better suited for a faster course at Balboa? Mud may not be the same thing as hills, but you need to be strong to run well in either, meaning between a hilly course and a muddy course a strength runner will have the advantage every time. And since NXN generally runs as slow or slower than FLN... seems like NXN is the more strength-oriented of the courses, which would be better suited for a strength runner like Baxter.
Baxter would have murdered Cain at Mt. SAC...
Is this even a question?? Baxter will beat her and the rest of the field by 30 seconds at NXN. After yesterday's performance I'm not convinced Hasay or Abby D could beat her. She is just in another universe as the rest of these high school girls on the xc course.

It's hard to say who would win if they raced the 3200m. It would be great race. Cain really hasn't raced the 3k very much but I'm not sure Baxter could just run away from her and she certainly couldn't outkick her. In a track 5k I would definitely take Baxter though

If this is the case, then she definitely has "LV Syndrome". Her current coach shouldn't allow this to happen if he/she can convince her otherwise. She needs to race the best and that would include Baxter at this point. I say put Baxter into the NY 5K and let 'em rip! Offer her a spot right now!
Baxter and Cain are great talents -- one in x/c, one in track. If they meet on a tough 5K x/c course, Baxter. I would like to see Baxter dominate Cain in x/c so Cain would decide to use x/c as a stroll in the park, and to maintain her aerobic base for track. Her competitive instincts should be reserved for track.
