ok, I did some research - this is a 2.93 mile course, not a 5k. I thought Baxter had run a 5k on that course in 16 flat.
At 2.93 miles, it is around 60 seconds short of a 5k. So maybe a mt sac xc race does equal a track 5k.
http://events.mtsac.edu/ccinvite/coursemisconceptions.htmstill awesome to break the record by that much, but she is no Abbey D or Hassay.
Yep, IMO it is about as fast as a track 5k, and about 20 seconds faster than many faster 5k courses, such as Woodward or WakeMed.
Not sure how this stacks up among the best performances ever... but I don't think Hasay ever ran a better xc race.
You are either blind or have no idea what you are talking about...or both.

She beat Hasay's pr by 27 seconds!!!! Widely regarded as the hardest xc course in the nation with 3 huge hills!! OH MY GOD!! This is a fantastic boys time!!! No one can touch her this year! She has McNabb in the bag!!
You ain't seen shit!
Haha, +1. I've run Mt. Sac a lot, and have run on many, many more difficult courses than Mt. Sac.
I ran 70 miles a week all summer and I am on a ranked d1 guys team. I was happy with my race today until i saw her run and her time was 3 seconds better than mine. How in the hell am I supposed to feel?
Yeah, what's with all the cement/blacktop? Is this a roadrace? Gotta love California.
Great aerial view of Mt Sac course...
watch the vid; hit the pause button the instant her foot makes contact...you'll see.

I'm not sure where you and the other posters got their information, but this course is almost entirely run on dirt. In some places it's hard packed, others loose.
And just in case people were wondering, yes it's short of 3mi/5k, but that's what the Invite course always is. The course hasn't changed in layout in a while. Footlocker West is run there on a very similar 5k layout that finishes on the track.
It's a bit of a stretch to even consider that a XC course. I know you yanks call running on a golf course XC but that looked like road/compact dirt most of the way. The hills look fairly substantial but the surface looks pretty much ideal.
I'm not knocking the run btw, a great effort!!

Try running it. If you're not in the top 10, you are running through a lot of dust. I remember racing, blowing my nose afterwards, and just tons of dust in my tissues.
The hills are also pretty killer considering it's kind of a tight first mile so you have to get out fast.
whatever happens at mt sac is always international news

I was there and she totally cut a corner. Should have been DQ'd!
Steroids. You heard it here first, lol.
Not sure if anyone noticed, but Simi Valley's top 6 at Mt SAC (88:30 team time), are all underclassmen
Sarah Baxter 11 16:00
Samantha Tetef 10 17:58
Sarah Riggs 10 18:00
Olivia Rosellini 10 18:10
Charlotte Utash 11 18:21
Desirae Jones 10 18:24
Great Oak also had 5 underclassmen (88:51 team time)
Ashley Helbig 11 17:28
Haley Dorris 11 17:28
Maiya Larsen 10 17:55
Christian Calain 11 18:04
Destiny Collins 9 18:22
Juniors aren't underclassmen...
What is up with the runnerspace site? Is it yet another crappy site that doesn't play videos on the iPhone?

This is actually an example of what I like about cross country. Most courses have some sort of regional feel to them that you would never get at a track meet. California is pretty dry so of course they won't be running through a mudpit or anything like that.
