That is very sad. I remember taking a special trip to the store with my old man to buy my first pair of spikes. That was fifteen years ago. We made the trip from New Hampshire because it was the only place to go for a serious distance runner .... maybe not, but that's what he said! (He was a hurdler.)
I live near the store now, and whenever I go to Quincy Market I try to stop in and take in some of the history. Unfortunately, I only need so much gear, and you can always find deals for shoes online.
I was just in the store the other day with my girlfriend, and when we left we were talking about how hard it must be to stay in business in that location. I'm sure it was.
I still need to go in and talk about my first marathon and my plans for Boston!
