Or, she could go to Dartmouth.
Or, she could go to Dartmouth.
Oh please...... wrote: Speaking of D'Agostino, I've heard Mary is also in interested in Coach Coogan and Dartmouth. They have a great program building up there and it's another top tier school not far from her home.
If she wants to hedge the possibility she wouldn't qualify for Princeton, yes, Dartmouth is an option. However, Dartmouth:
1) Is not in the same academic league as Princeton
2) She would be overshadowed by D'Agostino, who almost qualified for the Olynpics this past June
3) Have you ever tried to get to Dartmouth? She might as well be in Asia!
Again, for a top runner, IFF she has the academics, Princeton is a no-brainer!
Just sayin'
Suzy Favor Hamilton and Mary Slaney dominate the American list of sub-4 1500s. Both were HS standouts (Mary as a sophomore in the 800 at 2:01 and change, Suzy still holds the American junior record in the 1500). Doesn't prove that it's necessary to be a world-beater in high school, but gives an indication that it doesn't necessarily hurt either. Of course, Mary Cain doesn't have Mary Decker's speed. By the way, why doesn't Ajee Wilson's name come up in this conversation - she's the best junior in the world at 800m, and came within a whisker of Kim Gallagher's American high school record (isn't Kim's name in the senior record books also)? And then there's Cayla Hatton, fourth at world junior 5000m, second fastest American high schooler ever.....
The whole story has not been told as Alberto initially reached out to a well know East Coast coaching legend (retired)who had recently coached a well accomplished female Long Island athlete and Alberto asked if he would be interested in coaching Mary. This individual spoke with the Cain Family and after careful consideration passed on the opportunity upon considering the implications and responsibilites and also this individual is a long-time friend of current Bronxville Coach and fully aware of how the scenario had evolved over time with Mary. Alberto is currently an advisor not a coach to Mary although who knows how these things may play out. Any other facts are hearsay and speculation.

They let me in.
Her family is extremely rich, so any of these dire scenarios about her not achieving a college degree are moot.
Additionally, she is smart and hard working enough, and talented enough in running and in academics to pick up a coaching gig one day, or learn a enw trade, especially an software trade.

1) Please. You're splitting hairs in terms of academic prowess. Princeton is intense academically and is notorious for grade inflation and its pretentious eating clubs. Also, Dartmouth and Princeton are tied for #1 in Undergraduate Education...
2) D'Agostino will have graduated by the time Cain is there.
3) Dartmouth is 2 hours by car away from Boston.
