Can you break it down for those of us that don't want to watch the video now? Thanks.

The gist seems to be that the mud run business is (gasp) a business. From their tone, I gather that we are supposed to be mad about this.
The idea was "stolen" by the Hahvahd guy from some old dude in Scotland(?). I think it's an attempt to parallel with the Zucky FaceBook "scandal".

Did anyone ever doubt it was a business? But at least in these races there is a challenge. Currently there is a group going around as "Color me Rad" where they advertise a 5k in which you have packets of colored powder thrown on you. In a recent race in Fresno, it was reported they had upwards to 6,000 people participate. Oh, and for the challenge aspect. It wasn't even 5k. Turned on to be closer to a 2.25 mile run/jog/walk. Allegedly some proceeds were to go to the local Ronal McDonald House.
Does anyone else know anything about this group and do charities get a sizeable donation?

The had the first Color Run here recently. I think they got like 2 or 3 thousand for the first event. That is putting in some good numbers for the inaugural event. I'm sure it had some charity attached to it but I don't remember. My wife done the 'run' and I went and watched. There was probably only 2 people that tried to run a fast time and everyone was jogging and walking. It was not meant to be a competitive event AT ALL.
At least they didn't charge me to watch it. People had fun so whatever. I don't see me paying $30 to jog a 5K and throw paint but my wife my convince me to do it next year.

Right on brother. Other than your typical 5k and 10ks. Where is the challenge there? Anyone can finish a 5k. Girls can. Tough mudder is for real men.

Yeah, after reading about the race in this link, we have officially found the dumbest race ever.
I've always wondered why Tough Mudder etc. don't put any emphasis on competition. If it's such a "REAL MAN" sport, how come the emphasis is just on finishing and having a good time? It might actually be a good event if there were a big prize for winning.

Don't believe the term "Race" should even be assoiciated with this. From what I can tell it is just a money making event and they find some local charity to throw a few dollars at.

I'm going to start a "race" where you run a 5k and people random come out and punch you in the dick. I'll call it the blue ball challenge.

The number of participants is so large that lines form at each obstacle.
The trailer actually looks interesting, granted, of course, that the film is not covertly funded by the races it attempts to expose, and it's just an advertisement in disguise.

Tough Mudder (nor Color Me Rad) doesn't even try to consider themselves races, guys...
Direct from Tough Mudder website:
"Tough Mudder is not a race. It is an event to be completed. We built this event for people to push themselves and see what they are capable of. We sincerely believe that worrying too much about your time takes away from some of the most important parts of Tough Mudder. Namely, camaraderie and teamwork. Your timing is your responsibility to record and enter."
From Color Me Rad:
"Just try to finish before the sun goes down. We don’t even own a watch. At the finish line you’ll be rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and an endorphin induced high."

I think the trailer is actually just for the upcoming issue/article, right? Is there actually a film?
#1 Of COURSE ITS A BUSINESS!
#2 the concept is flawed. If you want a challenge race a race as fast as you can... but it is a novelty which has been combined with a tailgating atmosphere where people can re-live their college fratboy memories.
Only thing that annoys me about these events are that there is the suggestion that they are some how more difficult than a real race.. this has no basis in reality.
Well since so many of these "next boom" runners have been clogging up local races, making the race a total joke, now they have come full circle and have events of their own that start out as a joke- no idea of winning at all.

This presents an interesting challenge in tactics. Do you stay in a pack the whole way hoping they serve as protection and turn it into a kickers race hoping no one jumps out at the finish? Or do you take a risk and take it hard from the gun?
Either way after one punch in the dick it turns into a pure hatred race.
