Tough Mudder Spectator Fees

My sister watched her husband do tough mudder. She said you were stuck in spectator area all day with no food and had to take a bus to use the washroom.

He finished the 10 mile course in a mere 4.5 hours.

Yes. Some of the races have spectator fees now. One thing I know for sure. The Tough Mudders I've done are the hardest sporting event that I've ever done. Hands down.

Once you get inked, fill out a tattoo registration entry form to get free entry into a Tough Mudder event of your choice! Please note: some venues don’t allow tattoos on-site. If this is the case, we encourage participants to get Tough Mudder tattoos at local tattoo parlors."

Right up there with zombie races. I liked reading about one of those where you could pay to work at the race as a zombie (but only about half as much as the price to "compete" in the event).

So you have something against tattoos too? How about -XC-> tattoos every kid who ever ran JV gets?

Tough Mudder should pay ME to get a tat. Why do I want to pay to advertise for them?

Then you've done some weak races.

The principle behind Tough Mudder goes against every ideal I follow, and it was begrudgingly that I went to watch my little sister do one last year in New Jersey. Every "race" I have ever heard about has not had one good thing said about it - why do people continue to do them? The logistics of parking have been enough to force the cancellation of these events. Making spectators pay to watch is absolutely absurd, and since we paid in advance our tickets were "only" 15 dollars apiece. Nobody checked that we had tickets, and from we could tell, you could have just parked and walked around on the course and watched. We didn't get food or drink. Then they hit you with parking at $10 a car, minimum. It's an absolute sham.

All of those events are terrible, if you want to do one, round up some friends and go do your own for $free.99. Paying to be a zombie where you are actually doing work to benefit someone else is insane, but maybe the people that are willing to do that deserve to be charged for being idiots.

I never tired of seeing this pic.

Don't confuse this with a race of any kind. Doesn't mean it isn't pretty cool.

My kid did a Spartan Run (similar, shorter version of the Tough Mudder) and I went with him. My first reaction was to be the jaded distance runner objecting to these people making a profit out of a race, and to sneer at the ripoff.

As I watched thousands of people have an absolute blast doing something reasonably athletic for a couple of hours, for relatively modest money, I realized it was just another form of sports related entertainment.

Some people pay WAY more money to watch a bunch of athletes play baseball or drive cars or do some similar event. Lots of people pay way more money to play a round of golf--and even to watch other people play golf. So whats wrong with paying money to have fun doing something relatively difficult? Even if it isn't a real competition? And if its just for-profit entertainment--why shouldn't the spectators pay?

I'm not defending every for-profit "race" event--I am sure some of them are awful. But the one I went to was well organized, fun, and certainly worth my entertainment dollars. They had good food and beer for sale, rows and rows of porta-potties--the entertainment value for our family's dollars was comparable to that of most concerts, county fairs, air shows, or other similar events.

Just don't confuse it with a race, and you'll have a lot more fun.

Totally insane. Who would pay these "Race Watching Fees"? There isn't a track or field event in the WORLD that charges a "race watching fee". That's why when i go to nationals in oregon or the olympics they always just let me in and i can sit anywhere i want...

Shut up about it until you've done one, pal.
