look at her eyes, she knows it is all over
Over-training or a bad race?
I guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.

She had a weak summer. She'll look much better by season's end.
at this point she will be lucky to make the Ducks top 7 by NCAA Nationals! Oregon does look strong, be funny if they do well and Hasay isn't even a factor.
Note that, although they keep calling Pappas a senior--and I'm sure she's in her final season of eligibility--she's actually a graduate student at Oregon.
Why didn't Allie Woodward run?
Never seen her so far back in a college race. Guess she really wasn't feeling it. Hope it's just heavy legs from a high mileage week and that she'll be back up there at Wisconsin.
On the other hand, Pappas is a big threat for nationals...only one second off Sheila Reid's course record, and she didn't break away until late. It'd be funny to see her challenge D'Agostino (her best friend and ex- training partner) at Nationals
Alexi Pappas is the real deal. Mark Coogan knows what he's doing up at Dartmouth.
Also worth noting she's not a traditional "transfer" as she graduated from Dartmouth...no one in their right mind would transfer from such a great school, coach, and education.
Why didn't Woodward run? Why didn't did Molly Grabill run? Geezes Oregon is loaded!
Hasay looked uncomfortable the entire way, I think her career is over.
She simply has been over raced at Oregon. Vin is in it to win it , he has always been that way. He is out of the picture now , the damage is done. As tough and talented as she is , she is as fragile we are learning now. Im not a Vin hater and Im a big fan of Jordon , she is just run out , period. She will score , help the team no question just not as she had done in prior years.
On the plus side, I can't see Hasay melting down nearly as bad as Jenny Barringer did her Senior year! As long as she manages not to fall over and roll around, and put on a dramatic sympathy display like Barringer did when Kuiken decided to challenge her, then she will have a decent season.
Yes, that was quite the display of histrionics by Jenny. I doubt Jordan would ever go there.

Does this make Pappas a dark horse to win Nats?
No, it makes Pappas one f the favorites (if not THE favorite)
Pappas is a serious contender and a big dark horse. That was an impressive run and she looked VERY smooth...she was actually laughing and smiling at the end.
But let's be real, she's not going to beat former teammate Abbey D'Agostino. EVERY time they have raced, Abbey has blown her doors off. I'd love to see a 1-2 from them, but Abbey will beat her.
On the other hand, where did these girls come from?! They were both good high school runners, but they've grown into the best in the country. Big props to them for putting in the work and making it a lifestyle, and to Coach Coogan for developing them up at Dartmouth. Cool stuff.
Why didn't Pappas stay at Darkmouth and keep training there?

She's in a multidisciplinary master's program at UOregon that matches her needs perfectly.
She very likely got some kind of scholarship (athletic or other) to attend.
She had eligibility remaining, and just this year to use it.
I'd guess that one or more of those might be at least part of the reason why she became a Duck.
Oregon has benefited from several Ivy League runners over the last few years who have graduated with remaining eligibility. If you listen to their interviews, their common theme is that they had always wanted to run for Oregon, and this is their chance.
