Fiesta Bowl Marathon. Scottsdale, AZ.
Great course, great weather, just great! -
Run vs. Row 10K in Alexandria, VA. Terrible course, but great event in the early 2000s.
-
Another good one was the old Bankathon 30k from Schenectady to Albany which was often the National 30k championship. And in general I miss races that are longer than the half marathon but shorter than the marathon.
Not exactly what you asked but it sort of fits. -
"Jay Mountain Marathon" in Vermont
It was the greatest event I ever entered! -
Toronto Spring Road Races, in High Park, Toronto. Old school day of races dating back to the 60s.

The Runners World Fun Runs.
They were held at Foothill College, Los Altos, CA in the 70's and 80's. I heard they kept going after Bob Anderson sold Runners World in the mid 1980's.
Were these held on the same course Alberto Salazar set the AR for 8K on in a different race? -
Nike OTC Marathon

The Pagoda Half-Marathon in Reading PA. It was a beast of a course.
Second would be the old Baltimore Marathon with Satyr Hill. -
We were just talking about the old maryland marathon today lol. i was real young and did the relay in the last year of it. Ill add the constellation 10k from the baltimore area as well(which is the other race we were remembering)

Great thread, by the way.

There was a race called the Hilltopper Challenge in Fall River,MA. It was a 10 mile race and I heard many stories about it. I never got to race it but I trained on the loop a lot when I lived in the area. Sounded awesome. All of the races I like still exist.

Cleveland Revco 10k and Marathon when they paid money for world class fields. The 10k course was ugly and boring but it was in my area and was the only race in the state to have that much elite quality in a big city race. Nothing exists in Ohio anymore like that. Its not really dead. But the days of 2:11 marathons are over. A Kenyan in the late 90's set a road WR one year in the 10k. It was not a big paying race but they used to spend a lot of money on appearance fees to Jos Hermen's athletes and it was truly the only world class distance race in the state.

I ran the Ferndale 5K a few times! Long time ago.
I also liked the Hecht 10 Miler that ran through Rock Creek Park although it was usually hot as anything. -
Any North Carolinians here? WTF was up with Old Reliable last year?

Run vs Row is gone?
Too bad
For Northern Virginia:
Fair Lakes 10K/8K had a nice run. Sad to see it go.
PVI 5K was short-lived but it was a fast race - sub 14 course record.
Long live the Centreville Turkey Trot! -
The historic Zoar 5 mile in Ohio. It was one of those races that lasted from the early 80s when I think it would get near a thousand runners. I ran the last one in 2004 but it got too expensive to bus the runners to the start as it was a point to point course.
