He'll run 2:11. Or 2:10 at best.

If Ritz runs sub 2:08 and is in the top 5, great performance.
Simple as that. If he runs sub 2:07, doesn't matter where he comes in, it will be a great performance.
If he finished slower than 2:08, I hope he's contending for the win, and if so, great performance.
I agree with this. It seems the goal is for Ritz to try to keep competitive in this race - not time trial it. I think that strategy can work well for him but only to an extent due to not having a normal/long marathon build up and his late race issues with cramping and lack of gas in the tank. I'd only consider it a disappointment if he goes 2:09+ and is way out of contention.
I agree that a 2:08 would be great. Ritz seems to shoot really high, whether it's breaking 1:00 for the half or running a 2:06. He needs to progress incrementally and NOT GET INJURED. He seems to be an emotional runner, which can be great if you're in peak form, uninjured, and kicking it at the end of a race. But it can just as well get you in trouble and keep your there.
He hasn't shown that he's mastered the marathon and I think it would be better for him to run a solid effort and PR than to try to race with the 2:05-2:06 pack. After he's run a solid 2:08 maybe he can try racing it with the super-elites. If he runs at 2:08 pace, he'll be picking off some of the roadkill that tried to hang on at course record pace. That does wonders for confidence.
AlSal just said he is capped out milage wise at 110 per week. How's he going to be a world class marathoner at 110 MPW?
Ritz won't run 2:08. He will run a 2:11 or 2:10 at best.
How many marathons does it take to show that Ritz is not a marathoner and this is nothing more than a big payday?
He will PR , 2:08 though wil not get him in top 100 times for year just as reference point. Love to see him break through with a 2:06 !!!

Duncan Kibet and James Kwambai run less than 100mpw. 2:04:2X is pretty much world class...
I maintain that we should add one minute to Berlin, Rotterdam, Dubai and windy Boston times to address course advantage.
If Ritz goes 2:08, then great day
Kibet and Kwambai should not ever be brought up when talking about a non African guy from Middle America.
How many non-African marathoners have had success in recent memory on low mileage. ZERO.
Hall, who is much better than Ritz at the marathon and basically THE example of an American 'Kenyan' tried mileage under 100 and look how he has performed the last 6 months.
I am totally shocked how people will bring up this select group of runners who grew up with perfect running genetics, at 8000 feet, with a high activity level from year 1 and good nutrition and try to argue that they only run 90 miles a week.
2:08 would be a great performance from Ritz regardless of what place it gets him. Hope he does it.
Yuki Kawauchi runs less than 110 mpw and has run 2:08.
You mean Clayton?
Deek was 70-80s

+1
If that was the case, all LetsRunners would be epic failures.

This guy has a great running resume. XC champ in high school and college. Great at world XC. Sub 13 5000m. Three time Olympian. Battled back from big injuries numerous times.
Yet, if he only set at PR in a race it isn't impressive? Everything doesn't have to be a means to world domination you know.
Agreed.
