Early bloomers rarely are around when it counts (age 18+) so who cares what he runs at age 13.
If he is being coached to run high mileage the coach and parents need to get a little perspective here.
Write his name down and check back in 5 years. He'll be a nobody.
Not trying to be an a-ole here but the numbers and odd's speak for themselves
Well, it hasn't quite been 5 years since he ran 33:50 for 10k but 4 years later he just ran 14:56 for 5k XC, completely dominated Roy Griak this year, is ranked 2nd in the nation.
I would say he has done "ok" so far

lmao. 5y from now or 1y from now (5y from the OP)?
Yeah, in my neighbourhood there is also a dad pushing his kid way too hard.
He even has his own Youtube channel. Pretty sad.
Brad Hudson ran 32:57 for 10K as a 14 year old in Central Park in 1981.

What is Pretty Sad is your existence bqrunnerz
Delprete senior should be calling the cops on you, freak!!!
He is spending time with his kid. Running builds confidence and every parent does everything possible to help their child in that respect. Tip my hat to Delprete senior.
All those people who measure success based on what will happen in 5, 10 years are wrong. Look at Hirsch! I say he is successful because he is having fun now! He was also having fun and was successful 4 years ago.
Run Doctor, keep that attitude of yours away from running. Nobody wants to hear it. You are way too concerned with performance, long term, etc etc

Yeah, Hirsch is clearly having troubles improving as a runner, that NXN Heartland time is not quite what he was hoping for.
Gessner, Finn 12 UNA 14:39.4
Hirsch, Seth 12 Millard West 14:39.5
Only in running, among all youth sports, do you find criticism of kids doing a sport. And they coach and push the kids a LOT harder in gymnastics, swimming, football, basketball, etc.
I ran 35:29 on the hills as a tiny 13 year old in 1981. My best time later in life was 29:17
All fast kids don’t burn out. I never ran more than 35 miles per week until college

So, 9 years later he is down to 28:49. That is awesome, but still not indicating he will be world class.
I knew Jamie back then. He was a phenominal runner and great guy. I hear he's still running and he must be around 56.
So what, maybe that is his ceiling. It just goes to show that not all kid runners flameout.
Seth Hirsch has since run a 13 minute 5k
