Iphone 5 is beginning of end of apple dominance

No one is saying Apple isn't still the leader. The point being made is that Apple's momentum to maintain it's dominance is dwindling. It is most likely just a matter of a couple of years before Apple is just another major player.

That's what the analysts say (wonder why). Fact is that they have a 82% tablet share in terms of usage and that iPhone sales may be down from last quarter (no surprise after a holiday quarter) but YoY they are up over 30%.

Analysts are scared about the "what if the next iPhone is lame?" but really they don't know what is to come. And in terms of phones, tablets and music player, they are the undisputed leader right now. There is no evidence other than speculation that they may be in trouble.

Desktop/Laptops is a different matter, they are declining but they have as much profit as the top 5 PC makers COMBINED.

Apple is in decline and their interface now looks dated. They are getting killed in the "phablet" market which is growing, particularly in the overseas market. Samsung is taking that market.

Apple has always been a company that took existing ideas and made them better. They were not the first company to create smart phones, not the first for portable audio player, not the first for tablets, etc. They simply did things better than the existing market. Now they ARE the existing market, and the latest releases of their hardware and IOS don't show much new innovation.

I see them continuing to lose market share to cheaper, better offerings. Why would anyone buy a Macbook air when you can get a Samsung chromebook for $250? Why buy a phone AND a tablet when you can get a Samsung phablet for a price far below the price of two devices? Etc...

I totally don't understand the fascination with all things Apple. I just got an email on Best Buys deal of the day for a64Gb iPod touch for $359. Really? $359?? It has less functionality than my year old Droid Bionic! Which, by the way, has access to 100Gb online storage so it's not a storage issue.

Why would anyone pay $359 for a glorified MP3/MP4 player? I have a Chinese knock-off of the iPod Shuffle that I paid less than $5 for and if I needed 64GB, I could by a 64gb micro SD card for $30.

My friends have iPhones and the reception is cr*ppy. I don't get it.

If only that were the actual marketshare, and not advertising impressions. And if only that very same article didn't say: "That may be due to the more relaxed rules about what types of advertising and campaigns can appear within Android apps vs. those on iOS. Still, iOS was better in terms of eCPM, but the gap narrowed between it and Android, meaning iOS users resulted in just a little less revenue on average than did Android users for advertisers."

AAPL just sold 74.5 MILLION iPhones last quarter. That's nearly 3 times as many iPhones from your predicted peak in 2012. That's more than they sold in all of 2011.

AAPL is up over 8% this morning, near all-time highs. This doesn't include the dividends they've started paying since the beginning of this thread.

The Chinese have been holding off buying iPhones for years because they weren't BIG enough for their hands. Now Apple offers massive 5.5" phones and they're going crazy.
