YOU DO NOT CHANGE A PERSONS MENTALITY. The key is to play to Ryan's strengths. You can not correct his weaknesses as they are a part of his psyche. His problems have been someone trying to change things.
If a mentality has held you back then if you don't change it you won't reach your potential.
A coaches job is to work on weaknesses so that they are no longer weaknesses anymore.
What has he tried to change anyway that has negatively impacted him? He seems to always have been a 3rd to 6th place major marathon runner.
My point is if he wants to win a major marathon he needs to learn to run with the best in the world and then have a extra gear to run for the win.
He has not been able to do that yet. So changing his psyche by training with the worlds best MAY develop a previous weakness into a strengtht that leads to wins.
