Terrence Mahon was and still is his best option
Is he going to have to get a package deal to include his wife?

Ryan Hall, Chris Derrick and Amy Hastings will all be training in the same location by the first of the year. As much as I would like it to be in California, it will NOT. This board is going to be shocked.
Doubtful, unless Hall signs with Nike

That actually makes sense.
Actually I thought the same thing after reading the recent running times articles about Canova and his marathon training.
In the articles it talks about a 4 x 6k workout, where out of about 10-15 guys only 1 finished the complete workout. However, they all went home satisfied because they ran the right PACE with the worlds best for at least some of the workout.
This is the mentality that Hall needs. He could train with the best in the world and if he is not able to hang he has a coach to say ok Ryan your done for the day. This would hopefully prevent overtraining but at the same time develop a mentality of staying with the best.
Over a period of time he could just relax and see himself get closer and closer over a few months of workouts.
So I say Ryan should move to Kenya for three months prior to a spring marathon and train with Canova and his training group.
On the business side Asics could do a whole training with the kenyans thing and like the poster said he could do work with his foundation.
I vote for Carl Weathers because Hall needs the eye of the tiger.
Larsen would be the best choice but I don't know if he wants to coach anyone other than Meb at this point and the Halls are trying to sell their house in Mammoth. Ryan doesn't like to train in groups, doesn't want to do anything faster than marathon pace and wants to be fresh all the time and take days off so his choices are limited. Both his speed and base have eroded so he really does have a lot of work to do once he gets back to training.
Ryan does not need to train with people better than he is. He does not need to train with the best in the world.`
Ryan is a confidence runner.
If he is pressured in training he loses confidence. He needs to train with a group like Hansons where he is able to get solid training with guys that are not a threat to him. This will allow him to gain confidence and get a solid base.
Larsen and Daniels (most logical since he already consults with him), Hudson, or Squires. Options will be more limited when 3 of the 4 croak. I'd love to see him work with Squires.
Hudson is not an option. Ryan knows exactlly what that game is all about. I 100% guarantee you that Hudson is not in the top 100 on the wish list.

Exactly, how many elite runners want 100+ pictures of them taken during training and plastered all over Hudson's facebook page every day/week.
Brad is a strange guy. Has become the halfway house for all of runnings troubled souls. I give him props for keeping his nose in it. I don't think there is an athlete on his roster that hasn't been run out of town somewhere else.
He is not coachable , he wants it his way 100% , no coach would put up with his BS.
His wife is being coached by Steve Magness , maybe he could help.
Hudson
God coached him to a 2:04 marathon why would he switch up coaches?

Lots of b listers and a few past their prime, all with insecurity issues so Brad placates them with tons of pictures of them working out, but something lacking in the training because not much is being produced on race day.
I don't think he's on Hall's short list. Will be interesting to see who Hall goes with.

Rose Monday...just since you are assuming it has to be a guy.
Hall needs a man of faith, not a man of science.
"Canova would overtrain Hall along similar lines as Mahon, that's coaching that gets Hall further into a corner, not out. You can only go to the well so many times with the mega-mileage/mega-quality. "
I disagree, if there is one thing that Canova is great about, it is individualization of training. Go back to Shaheen, he was aware that he needed 1 day off per week to keep from being injured and we all know he ran exceedingly well.
He has stated once before that when advising regular joes with full time jobs, etc., he has stated that he many times recommends a reduction in overall training volume and more modulation.
Additionally, he has stated more than once, and even again very recently that in about 2 weeks of training that he will lay out, the schedule is changed by about 50%.

This all shows that Canova is very much about giving a load to a runner which they can handle.
