http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1FOM3VMtZsI know this isn`t the fastest but look at how many gears Bekele still has in that sort of speed (last lap begins at 4.25). Especially from 9800 meters -> (4.45 -> in that video) the kick is insane!
Cacho did a 50,1 last lap in Barcelona. But as earlier some mentioned Rui Silva in 2004, there was Rachid El Bashir who came extremely fast the last lap, especially the last 100m!
Cacho's last lap in Barcelona was 50.5 not 50.1.
Despite the overall time being quite slow in 3:40.1, his last 4 x 100m splits were:- 13.1, 12.2!! down the back straight, 12.3 round the curve & 12.9 down the straight.
That means he ran the 200m from 1200 to 1400m in 24.5!! Kind of puts Makhloufi's recent 25.3 split at the same stage of his London victory into perspective!
I don't think I know of any faster 200m split for the same stage in a race (certainly a Championship one at 1500m) EVER.
It does tend to give some credence that doping could have been involved in order to get the only HOME soil victory at the Barcelona Games!
I know Cacho was good, but at the time he was a 3:32 runner and I doubt even EL G or Morceli in that era were capable of that. Cacho's later 3:28 European record during the EPO era also seemed to come out of nowhere.
