Disappointed Ryan Hall Fan here.
Not that I couldn't see him dropping out of NYCM after he dropped in the OGs.
If you don't think a real human coach can help you all you have to do is compare Mo Farah to Ryan Hall.

It looks like Ryan's taking a day off every week isn't keeping him fresh and injury free like he said it would. It also appears his self disception that God is directly coaching him isn't work that well for him either.
Ryan, be strong in your faith, but stop acting like all the rules of physiology don't apply to you.
Get a coach, pray that God guides that coach, and start training in a more realistic and responsible manner. If I was the NYRR I wouldn't touch you again for a long while, after you took their money and jogged a 10k earlier this year and now let them announce you were running their marathon and then pull out. God expects all be good stewards of the gifts He gives, and part of that is acting responsibably and rependably to others.
Best post on Ryan I have seen thus far. Respectful, but critical. Agree with his faith, disagree with his actions.
Ryan's problem is not that he is a Christian, it is that he is committed to a church that is a big player in an extreme sub-section of charismatic Christianity; this has negatively impacted on the way that he approaches his faith, his life and his training.
His ramblings are typical of someone of that mindset, but are alien to Biblical Christianity. I have been there and got the T-shirt. I hope he finds his way out too.
I say all this as a pastor who thinks a lot of Ryan as a person and often prays for him and Sarah.
BTW , Sarah is now being coached by Steve Magness.
Hall should run the Honolulu Marathon. It'll give him time to heal and an easy win to get the letsrun monkies off his back.
Hey Hall, how about you go finish the Olympic Marathon you started before you do anything else. You were delusion and selfish to think God would heal your injuries so you could win the Olympic Marathon. You should have given your spot to someone else or done everything in your power to finish the race, even if it meant taking the rest of the year off. There are millions of people dieing of disease and starvation and you think God cares about you in a running race. You are a delusion egomaniac. If you are a real Christian, go help someone other than yourself!
delusional

+1
Ryan has himself backed into a corner that most of you can't understand.
1. Ryan needed to START the Olympic Marathon to be considered an Olympian. If he was not an Olympian he has a reduction of $250k a year in his Asics contract. (One million dollars over the next 4 years).
2. Ryan must run at least one marathon a year to maintain this contract. NY and Boston are the only marathons that will pay him 6 figure appearance fees.
Now feel free to carry on with all of the things he should do. It is just important for you to keep those facts in mind when determining his "best path".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not sure the figures are actually that high but the point is well made! You can bet for certain he's gonna take a big financial hit from pulling this stunt! That money is tied up in a lot of other people lives who are dependent on it! Including that "church" of his. Pantman is very accurate when he describes Ryan belonging to "An extreme sub-set of Chrismatic Christianty". That church breeds into it's members an obstinate attitude that cannot be penetrated even with the most sane and obvious logic! They often consider the advice of others as being "satanically inspired" and will
demonise anyone who calls into question the structure of their beliefs! Ryan won't take on a human coach (at least publically) because that would make him appear to be reengaging on his spiritual commitment to the Lord. He really has backed himself into a corner here and is going to put all his eggs now in Boston's basket! But what if something goes wrong in preparation for that one as well? Will he then blame himself? Or will he then rationalize once more that it must have been "God's will"? Is he really up late at night pulling his hair out over these supposed deep and profound decisions? Or.........is he laughing all the way to the bank?

Why people exist who continue to call a 2:04:58 marathon downhill with a massive tailwind the work of "a 2:04 marathoner" is a mystery. The people who do must be the same types who call their own 15:58.7 5000 "fifteen and change" and say that they do "about five-minute miles" for 10 miles when their PR is 54:47.

All the god jokes aside, people here don't consider the fact he is really just saying "god" to replace saying "myself" or "I."
I think that is the main reason why people make jokes.

Sad to see our best marathon runner ruin his career over his faith (mental illness).
Really a shame to watch his career slowly deteriorate because of his bizarre decisions.
He's going through his "Job" phase right now.

100% agreement. Apparently Ryan speaks to God on a daily basis and God is good enough to speak back to Ryan. I can't see how praying for Ryan will do any good. We'd kind of be intruding on their close relationship.

Hall might make more sense out of a burning bush.
I wish he would talk with Kevin Hanson. I understand that the whole Asics/Brooks thing would not work but Ryan doesn't want an every day coach anyway. Just talk philosophy and then make that work for Ryan. I believe that he just needs a little direction and to stop listening to Ray Flynn who has a financial interest in his running too many marathons.

I recently read this. I like that Ryan is coached by God, but Sarah is coached by a coach with an serious focus on science.

LOL - I thought for a minute you were going to say Ryan is coached by God and now Sarah is coached by someone who thinks he's smarter than God.
