That course map looks like a giant 2-legged elephant. Who designed that course, a kindergartner?

Big River and Forest Park also put on the US XC Championships last year so I'm pretty sure the course is legit.
The boy's times from 2011 to 2012 were actually slower.
That is a 3 mile course, not a 5k. Their bike/wheel needs to be recalibrated.

Why I love HS girls XC. Ya never know when the next phenom with no breasts will come onto the scene!! If she can ward off puberty for another 3 months she could be a Footlocker champ!
haha. hilarious and totally accurate. well said!

And Rojo......please report this guys details to the Pedo Register!!!!!
I ran the course afterwards with a friend of mine after all the races were over, because we were curious of how it would measure up. The might be too much detail, but this is how I figure it.
On the line, the course is 5000m exactly. When we ran it a second time, we ran the tangents (inside of all the curves and shortest distance to the next curve) and ended up with 4929 meters. Assuming the course was measured on the line, this would make perfect sense. I then did the math to back up that theory (not user error). The course was on average 6 meters wide, 3 on each side of the line. there were 9 major curves in the course. Circumference of 1/2 of a circle is ~3.14xradius. Thus 3.14x3 meters = 9.42 meters. Then you would need the number of half circles those curves add up to be (180 degrees of turn). I came up with 9. 9x9.42 meters = 84.78 meters.
That would equal 4915.22. Pretty close to the measured tangents, thus I would call it more or less accurate. In that case, the absolute MOST that could have been cut off would have been 80ish meters, which at that pace is approx. 16 seconds. That being said, that is the absolute maximum, assuming a freshman girl had the piece of mind to run the course absolutely perfectly to cut off the very most she could off the course. Giving her too much credit would still make her time 17:15 on a grass track, by my calculations. I am going to go ahead as say it was quite accurate, or at least as accurate as cross country can be.
Big whoop. I used high res imaging captured with my dirigible that I sent up last night overlaid on secret GIS imaging satellite data that I hacked. The results in toto show the course to be 1.19384m short.
Same course as last year - outer loop, inner loop, repeat the outer loop to finish. Many returning teams for this year's meet. Some of the girls actually ran a bit slower than they did last year, even though (as I remember) conditions were better this year. The top three girls were the outliers - none of the times behind them would make you suspect the course was short. Same said for the boys' races, as well as the small school division races. There were five 5K races run on that course that day, and none of the results look suspicious. I think these girls just spurred one another on to spectacular times!
Exciting time in Missouri for High School XC. We have some great runners, many underclassmen, so we should be enjoying great reaces for the next few years!

Girls running fast times as freshmen is nothing new. I don't get excited till their JR SR year. Without getting into details, running a lot delays puberty/development and the times run as freshmen for distance events have no predictive value with regards to future improvement.
Yep, I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being her all-time PR (or at the very least, one of her best times ever).
If they measured the course on the line they did it wrong. The rule book says you are to measure the course on the shortest possible path.
Honestly I'm not impressed when a freshman runs a time like that. Because so much changes about a woman's body at that age it's really hard to tell. The best female athletes slowly build up in their high school and college careers...some aren't even that good in high school, but they train smart.
When someone runs that sort of time as a freshman, I usually expect they'll burn out, get an eating disorder, or their times will go down the tubes when they, erm, fill out.
If she manages to clock times like that when she's a high school junior or senior, like Jordan Hasay (who's had her own share of performance problems), then I'd say she is more than a flash in the pan who hasn't hit puberty yet.
Love the last name of the girl in 4th place -- Racette.
I made that!!!!
The top three finishers compete for schools in different classes, so they won't run against each other at the state XC champs. Bummer.
