Irony of the Year: Oscar P Loses 200 and Then Says Other Disabled Runner Has Unfair Technological Advantage

No, wait. he's totally right! How is anyone supposed to compete with someone who has a longer stride? Look at Nigel Amos at 5' 10". How is he supposed to keep up with Rudisha at 6'3", or, dare I say, Andrew Wheating at 6'5". The IOC needs to set a standard height and ensure that height cheaters like Rudisha are stripped of their medals and records.

Now the guys blades were measured before the race. Ironically, the Science of Sport guys have pointed out Oscar actually took less steps in the race than the winner so Oscar P's stride length is longer.

whew our long international nightmare is over. can we turn this dude's mic off yet?

I youtube'd some of 100m/200m races in Paralympics, and noticed something interesting. Some of the runners have horrible starts but come on like gangbusters in the second half of the race (the Brazilian guy being an example of this). it actually makes the race more exciting as you have far less of an idea at the halfway point of who will win as the person in dead last can come out of nowhere to win. The "able" bodied sprint races are boring and predictable by comparison. Anyway, I guess this is driven by whether they have one amputated leg vs. two and its impact on their start?

Since someone started a second thread about this, I'll repeat it here.

The should trade legs and run again. Fastest average wins.

I wonder what the winner's time was for the last 100m and last 50m (faster than Bolt?).

except the race was won over the last fifty metre not by alan's supposed longer stride length, which looked shorter to me than oscar's. but by alan's amazing leg turnover, which was almost twice what oscar's was

Right on. Who does he think he is running against able-bodied, positive-splitting, pharmaceutically-enhanced, regular people?

He hasn't really. Pistorius is kinda stuck using the blades that have been approved by the IAAF. The other paralympic athletes can use blades not tested by the IAAF but are fine under IPC rules.

Pistorius himself could change, but given all the efforts that have gone into him competing with the able-bodied athletes, changing now could look like he's admitting that the blades do make a lot of difference.

All of the athletes that use blades have advantages over any one that wants to compete and doesn't have access to them.

Off that point a bit, look at this other 200m section.

Different category I guess.
