German"s splits:
56
60
56
43...last lap was 56
...leaders ran a 58 last lap.
better tactics and perhaps he could have been top 3.

I love it when people just blow off ideas that are contrary to the received wisdom. At one time, the majority of people was just as positive that the world was flat, and that the Earth was the center of the universe. Now, apparently, the accepted wisdom is that a distance runner can't be successful unless he runs 70-100m/wk or more.
I love it even more when people try to position themselves on the same level as Copernicus. Even better when they name themselves after Lagat.
I don't mean to be cruel, but... I kinda wonder what Dave Smith is thinking right now.
Probably saying, "I built that kid's foundation while Jerry reaps the benefits".
Of course, this is untrue as the GF had no foundation after years of illness and injury. But it will help Dave sleep well at night.
ok, agreed that it was not a great tactical race for him as he hung back way too far. i have a feeling that he either didn't feel like he could run that fast right now or that his coaches told him to hang back. he really doesn't have any int'l track experience. also remember that this dude has been sick and injured a lot up till this spring. a far as the big 3k coming up, he'd be lucky to get under 3:40 since his PR is 3:47. if i were him, i'd just go for it and run with the top guys until i just couldn't hang anymore. this is the same race that lagat ran an american best of 3:29 a couple of years ago. it'll be interesting to see how he runs this one.

Man, those dudes are FAST!
no
it's called "perspective"
there has not been a better 1-off 5k runner in a semi-fast race than bernie that day...

I bet he is very happy for GF. Also GF says in his interview that his training was not much different on what he did with Dave Smith.
After GF's 3:37 in June he states in his after race interview that he his trainers finally figured out how to keep him healthy.
I believe this information has been passed on to his new trainers.
Nike is not going to invest their money on a runner that can't run for them. They have the means to keep GF healthy and as is starting to show he be something special when he can train without being injured.

Asking v3 to act like a human being?
Good luck with that!
AS a FYI , it gets him barely into the top 30 times for the year world wide.
He needs sub 3:32 to make top ten times.

Which would be relevant if ALL of the following were true:
1) GF is primarily a 1500/mile guy (he is not)
2) GF is in peak form (he is not close)
3) GF was NOT just getting back in shape after a multitude of setbacks (he is)
Try posting relevant stuff.
oops. meant SEVEN...7:47 PB and lagat @ 7:29. so yeah. if they were running a 3k in 3:29 they'd be some sort of robot.
Did someone call me.

Relax !
Its relevant for this thread , we are posting about his 1500 recent time that is relevant to his current racing season , he is in the best shape he has been in years ( note the PR ) , yes you are correct he runs others events and runs them well ( 5k ) , but his record shows he shines in the 1500 meters , his only NCCA title 1500 , his fist pro race win was 1500 , he ran the 1500 at the Oly trials need we say more ?
Yes his best event will not be the 1500.
