That's very impressive. He never ran that fast all four years of college and it takes a couple of months of being a pro, and BAM! In the video of the race he really had a nice kick. Now, if he can just stay healthy.

He even said in the interview after the race that the 1500 is not his race. He just "uses" it for speed training for the 3k and 5k races.
and he said he hasn't being doing anything faster than 57s for 400's.
I wouldn't be surprised if he runs a bit on the faster-side of the 3k conversion: 7:35, here he comes.
7:35 seems right to me. Teg ran 3:34 and 7:34 in the same season. Jager just went 7:35 and woul've probably lowered his 1500 to 3:45-5 if he'd extended the season.
Ventolin can we get a line of fit for this guy? I think German is the next big thing in the 5k/10k. The fact that he is probably running this time (better than Rupp's PR) off 51 or 52 400 speed tells me that he probably has some impressive endurance already.

I wrote in another post it would be nice for GF to get to 3:35 or 3:34....and he did.
Wow.....you're awesome!
Verzbicas may never be able to run competitively again after the bike crash. he even said that the first thing in his physical training will be to learn to walk again. :-(
I love how pissed off people get on here sometimes. No need to get crazy man, I'm just giving my opinion. As a coach I have see a lot of my athletes focus on times and forget to RACE, so when we get to a big championship they are unsure of what to do. I'm not saying German is like this at all, I'm just saying that a 3:38 win against a good field is FAR more impressive to me than a 3:34 7th place finish.
Centrowitz didn't run very fast at the World Championships (not sure, 3:37 or 3:38?) but got a medal. He ran tactically smart and finished 3rd in the world. I don't really care if he was passing people on the finishing straight, it's still 7th, so we should wait to see how he progresses over the course of the next year with racing before everyone dubs him the next great American miler.
I am rooting for him and think he is a very talented athlete. I hope he can have a very successful career and represent the US at some major championships. I think that Schumacker will be able to help him learn how to race tactically smart like Tegenkamp, Solinsky, and even Jager, and finish high up in the race and run pretty fast.

Fernandez WILL run more than 55-75 mpw with Schumacher and he WILL run faster.
Thank god you don't coach anyone of importance.
Naw, dsrunner is right
just heretical.

been watching German since early in his high school years. One thing about him, he can just run pace all day. If he's doing 57s in practice and used to it, it shows like today how adaptive his body is to the pace he practices at
Overheard at the stadium, post race, from a Kenyan talking to another:
"WTF. where are the Americans getting these guys?"
Africans don't even know we have more in the war chest. Wait for that skinny guy from Stanford to get rolling.
GF's progression is just incredible.
Last year his SB was 3:44, now it's 3:34.
His first race this year outdoors was 3:48. Now he's down to 3:34.
What's the 3k and 5k equivalent to a 3:34.60 1500m?
The greatest "German" from Mexico, ever, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epUC3aN6ouw
Bump for interest.
