I have always been a Teg fan but don't understand how Nike continues to pay him when he runs what 3 races this year (Pre - OT- Oly)? Sure those are 3 major races and he is adding the 20k this weekend, but does not seem to be anough racing for what Nike must pay him

Teg ran a 53 last lap with a 26 sec last 200m, to finish a 13:20 race. The WC that year was won in 13:17, so the pacing was certainly similar, so it's reasonable to assume that he could have closed in 53 again to finish with the leaders. Why he couldn't, I don't know.

Also, his SB in 2009 (12:58) was right up there with the best in the world, so he was certainly as fit as the other guys.

Oh and, 'since when did being a 12:58 guy make you likely to deliver', you ask? Since 12:58 guy Rupp got silver. Since 12:59 guy Lagat won WC in 2007. BOOM!

Rupp took silver in the 5k? News to me. Idiot.

Also it was widely recognized that Rupp was in much better shape than 12:58, not the same for Teg.

I don't claim to have any idea what Teg is actually thinking. As for what is best for him, he and those closest to him are the ones to figure that out.

But as long as we're speculating ...

What more can Teg realistically hope to do on the track that he hasn't already done? Solinsky could still be driven by trying to become an Olympian, and there is at least some chance he could do so in 2016. Teg is already a two-time Olympian, 4th at Worlds, held an AR, went sub-13 in the 5k ... what can he realistically hope to add to his track resume at this point?

So my guess is that he'll give the roads and, in particular, the marathon a try -- the appearance fee argues for that as well.

I heard he is in a gay sex scandal with a norwegian shot putter and he is calling it quits before Perez Hilton prints it online next week.
