Or Kiprop who has run 3:28.88 and 1:43.15. If he ran the 800 more this year he'd probably hit 1:42.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cycling_at_the_2012_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_road_raceThe top ten ranked countries in the final standings of the 2011 UCI World Tour qualified to have five riders to represent their respective country in the race
why discriminate in athletics/swimming ???
That's one event in cycling and only 1 or 2 riders from each country are there to win. The rest are just there to help pace and draft those 1 or 2.
In track cycling, there are several events where each nation can only nominate 1 competitor. So in that respect it isn't as open as track & field.

TrackCoach wrote:Lagat and E'G were only 1:45x 800m runnersplease don't tell me you are a proper coach
webb ran 1'43.8 off 3'46.9
hicham has run 3'26.0/3'43.1 & bernie 3'26.3
they were at worst 1'43 guys in their prime
question :
noah ran 2'11.9wr & had
1'44.49pb
he actually went 49.8 in his 1k which is suicidal
he had to hang onto some sort of 800 time knowing he had 200m more to go
he split
1'44.62
what are you offering for his 800 shape in rieti ???
Probably 1:43 flat.
The reason why Ngeny, Lagat & EL G hardly ran any 800's is because they were doped to their eyeballs on EPO and this gave them super human endurance from 1500 up but didn't help with their speed.
Lagat actually did go out and run a few 800's and get wupped every time. He even sucked at 1000. Hasn't broken 1:46 at 800.
If EL G, Ngeny & Lagat went out and ran regular 800's it wouldn't take too long before people would have realized that these guys were doing something.
An athlete running 3:26 should have no problem running sub 1:43. The fact that they never cam anywhere near this and the fact that almost all the 1500 guys in the late 90s suddenly were also great 3 & 5k runners but crap at 800, underlines what a total aberration that period was.
Notice how few elite 1500 guys are now regularly running super fast 5ks, and how many now run more 800s, as it used to be before the EPO period.
In light of Armstrong's plight this week, its a shame they can't scrap all the men's WRs from 1000 to 10000. They were as much tainted as anything Armstrong did.
you are joking ???
both ran 1'46 for last 800 of the athens 1500
that doesn't indicate speed ???
hicham finished his 3'26wr with a 53.2
no speed ???
where was his 800 in '01 or '04 late season when he was at his peak ???
he ran 1'46 for last 800 in athens
what do think he couda run an open 800 that day ???
err...
what did running 3'26 not tell us ???
drivel
if you want to make an epo argument then look at ramzi who used modified epo & had enough speed to win a 800 gold in '07
clearly epo didn't hinder him speed wise
because these are generally pure 1500 guys or 1500/800 ones
it's cyclical
& remember, hicham's 5kpb just got hammered by 6 guys in recent euro race - his 12'50 is not "super-fast" by today's criteria
