I find this very unconvincing. The HS accomplishments were a fair amount of time ago, and his dad's successes might tell you that he has the ability to be a talented runner, but don't tell you with any specificity what his best event would be.
I agree with Ventolin; his 800 ideal race would have to be a good deal faster (I'd estimate 1:45 high or 1:46 low but again, it's hard to get too specific; reality is messy). I'm also on board, increasingly, with Ventolin's understanding of 3k performances. I think that if it were run more and with better pacing we'd see many more 7:25s-27s, but also think that Komen's record would probably still be a tough nut to crack. I don't like his (your if you're reading this ) juvenile writing style or his verbal tics- every time I read "wabbit" I cringe - but i think you're onto something about running performances being fairly rational and predictable based on some assessment of speed and long term endurance.
Anyway this is good news for Centro, but really, WTF is the deal with Manzano. Why are his performances so bipolar? Has he ever been asked that?
