Very impressive, yes, but in the video, he was optimistic about getting the WR, not just the AR. Hopefully he will give it another shot soon!

Yes but he probably went into it thinking it was easy. The guys that have the record are decent runners (3:50ish 1500 guys) that do this race multiple times a year because it is the most impressive part of their running career.
Symmonds probably didn't realise how much time it would take to ...stop...drink the beer..and start running ... each and every lap. So he was probably not running as all that hard and trying to pace but just did it wrong.
He also has a successful running career, so killing himself for this is pointless. Just all fun and games.
I think I would throw up if I tried to run this type of race.
I need to see a video before I believe that he ran this alleged "beer mile" in 5:19. How fast could Symmonds run a mile if he went all-out and had other runners to pace with - maybe 3:55? So we are to believe that Symmonds stopped to drink 12 ounces of beer between each lap? Even if he somehow drank each beer in 20 seconds apiece, which seems fast to me, how could he go and average about 60 seconds per lap without all of that beer affecting his speed?
Watch the video. It took him 8.8 seconds to chug a beer. That leaves plenty of time. (Not that i could do it)

I'd have to be chased by someone, like the police, or I'd throw up. I can never do that.

He said on twitter the video is coming soon. Stay tuned

Why am I not surprised by either the fact that Nick did this, nor by the fact that he would publicize it as well? Don't forget to get a roll bar on YOUR MG, Nick.
Rumor has it that Todd Williams ran something like 4:42 for the beer mile way back in the day. This is back before iphone videos and that stuff so you's have to reach out to him to hear the story. Brojo's you got his email address? I'm sure he'd tell you the same story he told me some years ago.

I hope he gets tested.
Everything is just a fantasy of his. For those of you keeping score at home, attention-seeking guys such as Nick are absolute turn offs to most well-adjusted women. It shows a need to impress, which is seen as weakness. Real, strong men do not need to impress. Their strength/qualities will just naturally shine through. But feel free to going on not getting it--both this truism and the other "it."

Your handle is wrong bro.

His 1500m PR is 3:36.04, so he can (could?) go under 3:56 for sure. Has anyone faster ever tried a beer mile?

What are you responding to? The rules say it has to be a min. 5.0%. It doesnt' say it has to have more.
I want to see Rudisha vs Symmonds beer mile....can LR hosts it?
Rudisha DNF. Seems like a pretty straight-laced guy.
Rudisha DNS. Too classy
Rudisha would probably prefer fermented maize spirits; I assume the Masai have some kind of favorite liquor involving corn. Maybe a maize spirit vs. beer drink off is in order?
I realize the Olympics are over and he needs to blow off frustration for not medaling, but is this really what we want to see from one of the american best at 800m. Honestly Nick, I supported the whole "We need Change" message, but this is just plain unprofessional of you. It's time to stop the frat boy antics and act like a grown-up. Really You should not be encouraging our youth to participate.
Agreed. Not to be uptight, but he's a little old for this. I thought it was stupid in college, but at 28, it's really pretty lame.
