Where was he at D2 Nationals? Injured? Sick? Finally get kicked off the team for drinking? What's the story? someone said he just quit, but come on who does that right before the national meet...

got the boot.
who wants to know? and who really cares anyway??
if he runs, then the GL region gets another qualifying spot. But as he didnt, they are stuck with two again next year
He definitely did not just quit. While being a great guy on a personal level, he doesn't necessarily follow all the rules as far as practice attendance is concerned that the team is expected to. This led to disciplinary action (being left off the team for nats) What he does now is up to him...
Talked with some GVSU boys at the meet. Sounds like they are happy with the decision to not run Roggers even if it cost them a higher finish and the regional a bid for next year.
i would say we definately were not happy with him not running; however, he broke the rules, and his punishment was fair and deserved. i just wish he would have put the team in its right place on his list of priorities. i HOPE he comes back with a new attitude--it's all on his shoulders though.

Very mature attitude! I don't know the guy but respect your feelings and assume he got what he deserved. Here's hoping he gets his act together, for his sake primarily and secondarily for the team's sake. As an ole GLIAC coach, I'm always pulling for you guys!
First off, there's no "d" in Rogers (Other than Bill). Second, despite his great performance last year at Nats, there's no guarantee Aaron would have even cracked GVSU's top-5 and put them ahead of Davis for the eighth spot. He was highly inconsistent all year in meets (apparently being that way in training for 3+ yrs. finally caught up with him). Props to the 4 GVSU Seniors who DID make sacrifices for the sake of the team, DID run at Nationals, and did get rewarded for 5 years of busting their asses. Way to go Vandy (LBC representin'!), Blacquiere, Rossy, Watson (tough race at nats, you were a beast all year). Not to mention the 2 frosh studs and Nichols (tough to run on slippery snow and mud when you're 6'4"). Congrats to the Laker men and women on a great season. If Rogers returns for indoor w/ a better attitude that's good, but this Laker fan isn't holding his breath. GVSU should have an outstanding track season regardless.

Thanks GV10k: It is nice to get some props about the way we ran instead of the Rogers issue! Keep on running baby!!!
Watson, I'll always give you props just cause you're so damn sexy..Just kidding, you're an ugly little mofo and you had a hell of a season just like the rest of the men's and women's team, old man Lints would be proud.
GV10k: (or should I just say G.L.?) Very good points about our alma mater. Keep it up buddy.

Now that we're talking of runners from the GLIAC...I was looking at results from track and cross last year from that conference and I saw a kid from Ashland that did really good by the name of Joe Soehlen(sp?) what happened to him in this cross country season? did he not train over the summer, because if I were him I would think of quitting...I mean geez...unlesss soemthing is seriously wrong he didnt run well...I feel bad bringing it up if something is wrong though...just wondered....where is the kid from anyways? is he an ohio kid?
Actually...none of those Ashland guys (besides Cordes-who didn't compete for AU last year) had a spectacular season. They all stepped up last year when Cordes was out and suprised a lot of people at All-Ohio, GLIAC's and Regions. Shoelen, Swartzen..., Iller, all had solid seasons last year. What the heck happened? Their coach normally has a great development curve...guess the chips didn't fall their way this year.
actually joe did not train much over the summer, he had mono and that is what effected him this season. nate iler had some IT band problems. there were 4 stress fractures that happened over the summer(off of 45 - 60 miles per week), one appendictimy (sP), a father to one of the runners died the week before regionals in a freak accident, that runner ran though - with all he could muster. coach gallagher did all he could to hold the team together. bad things happen to all teams and i do not mean to sound like poor us but i am trying to show that our coach had his hands tied in what he could do with the guys. Rick bement made huge improvements this year, he was 5th in the conf and 15th in the region, look up where he was at last year, same thing with basically all the young guys we had on our team. Congratulations to GVSU and Hillsdale and Wayne State, all three programs ran great this year.
someone i knew who runs in the canton area where that joe kid is from said they talked to some of his friends at a turkey trot today and they said he might be quitting running...something how he keeps getting sick and stuff...I'd hate to see that happen...looking at results he seems good...
hey whats up with those long headband thing that Rogers and Nichols wore form conference on out? and whats the picks for the top two spots in the region next year with GV running 4 seniors on their nationals squad?
GVSU will reload, not rebuild, next year. True, they had 4 key seniors on varsity this season, but next year they will have Blake Terhune, Jason Prowant, Dan Brown, and others returning from redshirting. Look for Terhune to be in the mix with Nichols, Vyain, and Terpstra for #1 man in '03, with Prowant, Andy Duemling, and Casey Abston to round out the top 7. If things go well in track and over the summer, GV could be even better next year than this year.
we WILL be better--sir.
pretty confident, eh?
soehnlin from ashland sucks. he should quit, i heard all he is good for is for tossing the salad of ashlands top guys
