And for the record, as far as Olympian elites not taking part in these kinds of races - Shalane Flanagan competed in the Pikes Peak Ascent finishing somewhere in the 80's and over 40 minutes slower than the course record.
She was also 17. She'd probably be faster now.
Sage congrats on your wonderful performances. You are doing great in the Ultra world. I look forward to watching you push the envelope at all your future races. As Theodore Roosevelt put it, "His place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat." Keep pushing your boundaries. That is what running is about.

In fact, he is running Pike Peak Ascent soon which used to be Matt Carpenter's bread and butter event. Look for him to go under 2 hours here and obliterate the record. Blah...
Or not?
http://www.pikespeakmarathon.org/race_results/2012_ppa_inprogress.txtNo disrespect to Sage, I hope he continues his journey into the mountain, and ultra scenes, guys like he, Max, Wardian, and etc...will not only challenge the limits but will also draw new blood into the sport, always a good thing. At the same time, it would be nice to see just a little respect for Carpenter and his high-altitude recordshere in the CO high country. Those of us who have run some of these races know how off the chart they are. Good luck to Kilian tomorrow chasing the Pikes full marathon record, I may drive down just to spectate!
Is there any professional runner who has a shot at Carpenters record? Thought Jono Wyatt in his prime had a great chance. There was no way Canaday in his first attempt would breack the record. He was off around 20 minutes!
Sage almost got taken down by Kim Dobson today... what a stud. I think Alicia Shay would have also taken down Dobson and perhaps Shay on this course. She is on fire.

Believe me, I can't break 24 for 5k right now.
Did I crap on him? I don't think so.
yeah, you totally did.
you precisely represent the douchebaggery of this website.
and Sage goes out of his way to respectfully reply to your dbag comments and what do you do? make more dbag comments.
you're an embarrassment, but since it's fairly unlikely you're an actual coach i guess its irrelevant.
Totally agree about Matt Carpenter. What he did/has done on Leadville and PP course is legendary. Just because he didn't run WS 100, Hardrock, etc. doesn't mean he isn't a great ultrarunner. Sage came nowhere close to his record yesterday (he didn't even win) in the ascent nor did Killian today in the marathon. Killian was almost 25 minutes from his record. That's 4 miles behind Carpenter's pace at the finish.
Again, I like Sage and hope he does well in ultras, but let him prove himself a bit more before setting these ridiculous projections.
