Dropping out at 10 miles. TEN MILES. I'm still totally confused as to why he even would start the race if he can't run for 50 minutes.
If this isn't a wake up call to him to get a real coach his career is over.

Then explain Defar's success. Or did you not see her immediately following her 5,000 victory? She and Hall are both hyper-devoted. Hall's issue's are separate from his devotion. At best, Hall's devotion is a symptom of a larger problem; but not the problem itself.

I did see that and she looked batsh.t crazy.
I didn't say that a religious person can't be successful. I said that religious beliefs are either crazy or stupid. There are lots of crazy and stupid people that are successful at sports. It ain't rocket science.
Defar has a coach. Maybe she thinks god made her win and everyone else lose (heathens right eh?) but she still has a real coach who makes a plan.

Therefore, don't knock Ryan Hall because he's religious; knock him because he's crazy or stupid.

When I read Hall's and Abdirahman's post-race comments (see below) I get the sense that they are covering up the seriousness of their pre-race injuries. Perhaps they wish to prevent an appearance that they knew they were unable to compete beforehand and therefore should have conceded their spot to the next guy, Ritz in this case.
Ryan Hall: “It was my right hamstring. I don’t know if it is tendonitis or something up high in the connection. But it was nothing that was that serious in training. We’ve been doing a lot of work on it to keep it clean.”
Abdi Abdirahman: “I don’t know what it is, but it just popped when we turned and I tried to run a couple more miles, but I just couldn’t take it anymore. It was just painful. There was no warning. I had a little problem in training, but it was nothing. We looked at it at the USOC and there was just some water on my [right] knee."
Here is what Canova had to say about the London Olympic course. I'm sure Abdi and Hall agree 100%.
"In a course like this, it’s not possible to achieve good results if the athletes have some small physical problem. A small hamstring, a pain in the back, a blister in one foot, become going ahead a limit the athletes cant overtake, because under muscular point of view the body has to suffer every time there is a turn or a change of surface."

What an odd off-topic thing to say.

Will you stop saying that please. If you're not religious, fine. But calling someone crazy and stupid for certain religious beliefs makes YOU look crazy and stupid. And for the record, I am not a religious person but I respect others' beliefs even if I don't agree with them.
Ryan Hall is starting to remind me of the joke where a guy goes down on his knees and starts praying to God to make him win the lottery. Suddenly, trumpets sounds, the sky parts, and a booming voice from above says: "You could at least buy a ticket, you lazy mofo!".
I'm not religious at all, don't believe in a god who personally intervenes in our lives, and don't really even believe in a god at all.
But in Hall's defense, he did say in the New York Times article that he was still trying to sort out what were his own thoughts and what were God's. And he also said that he enjoyed discussing and debating his faith with others. Also in his defense, the NYT article mentioned that he had been brought up in an evangelical household - these ideas are what he has been imbued with from infancy, I am guessing.
I also would have liked to see him finish the race, even if he crossed in 4 hours. I used to watch the old films of the early Olympics, with the finishers staggering, weaving, collapsing and then getting back up - making superhuman efforts to finish the race. But I guess if he felt his tendon was going to rupture or something, then he would know best. Unfortunate, though. I was hoping he'd have a good race and be happy with it.
I would think it would be very hard for him to get a coach at this point, although I suppose he could always believe that God was instructing him to get assistance.

1st amendment!!!! 1st amendment!!!!! STOP TRYING TO SILENCE ME! EVERYONE NEEDS TO EAT AT BURGER KING TOMORROW TO SUPPORT MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!!!!!
Yes, you're right, the 1st Amendment does give you the right to be a jacka$$ and you are taking full advantage of it. Awesome mature response too.
Personal experiance says Hall has an extream view on god. Dont defend his faith because you think yours might be similar. Hes weird.

A more mature response would have used the word "jacks$$"
Ok, I'll take that back. How's "unenlightened ignoramus"?
My country did not send me here to start the race, but to finish it.
I don't think this philosophy exists much anymore.

Hi guys, just thought I'd explain myself.
I've been crazy busy the last few weeks (always happens when the Olympics are on lol) so I just couldn't answer everyone's prayers. I even had to stop creating famines and earthquakes to make sure I could help as many athletes as possible.
Unfortunately Ryan's prayers weren't up to his usual standard so he wasn't given priority. The Kazakhs really brought their A game with their prayers this year and I was able to help them have their most successful Olympics ever. GREAT SUCCESS!!
I shouldn't be too busy once the NY marathon rolls around so hopefully I can't help Ryan then.
Keep the faith,
God,
Could you get me a date with Shannon Rowbury? Most of my dates look about as feminine as Castor Semenya.
