What an astoundingly stupid comment. As if a thread on one website is representative of an entire nation. What ignorance.

I second that. The "Does God exist?" argument is completely pointless.
Hall was so used to listening to Mody Dick on his smartphone on his long runs that he felt naked and lost without his phone.
Moses usually stopped after ten 36-inch hurdles and 400 meters.

You sir are an ass.
I heard his last words before he dropped out were "Maybe just a short run today."
Paula Radcliffe has shown her personality. She gave up her spot when she knew she was not going to be able to compete at the highest level of competition. Bobo Mcgee "Ryan Hall" says he is good to go and as soon as they throw a 14:11 5k in to the mix he is hurt, out, and running 16 min for his 5K split. I am just saying his ego has a problem. His story is fishy. Uceny get back up and finish the biggest race of your life. Hall finish the dam race or do not run it. Make the hard decisions when they count not the easy decision and look bad. Many of Americans can only dream of giving a honest effort.

Uceny fell last year at the WC, then got up and finished the race. No one cared. Been there, done that.
If you think it's noble to complete a Sisyphean task, then go right ahead--we won't stop you. But the rest of us will see you as the true idiot you really are.
I posted this in the Meb thread too, but thought you might find it interesting. I guess Meb didn't get formally announced at the beg. of the race or get to toe the line with the other elite runners. IAAF basically ignored him, despite him being the only previous medalist there. I think Ryan got announced, though. Meb was almost in tears over the snub but he used it as his inspiration to climb his way up to fourth:
Hmm, Lolo Jones was ripped to shreds for finishing 4th?

Wow, that is awesome. And I'm not saying it's Hall's fault, but he should have been embarrassed if he was one of only 10 runners to be formally announced at the start.
At what point will somebody close to Hall stop coddling him? Someone needs to tell him that, despite his talent, he is blowing the biggest opportunity of his life because of this religious nonsense. Get a real coach, someone who isn't afraid to pull any punches. Train like a real professional athlete. Stop praying and doing commercials.

Is Hall any more religious than Defar? Seems to be working for her.
Whatever. She has a real coach and isn't relying on whatever "God" is to train her.
To all of you bad mouthing Ryan Hall because he had an injury, F*ck YOU!. Desi, Abdi and Ryan dropped, out Uceny had a fall Sh*t happens get over your miserable worthless lives!
he uses faith based healing but then goes to get real treatment. his church features speaking in tongues. he talks about god being his coach and giving him his workouts. he runs on sunday. he drops out at 10 miles of the Olympic Marathon, no different than many other professional runners saving their big effort for the big money fall marathons. other than wanjiru at beijing, most of the best marathoners have done that in wc and oly marathons over the years, leaving lesser lights the championships usually. abdi also dropped out of the olympic trials in 2008 in nyc. I saw him walking at 18. the olympics just don't mean all that much to most of the top marathoners.
Hi guys, just thought I'd explain myself.
I've been crazy busy the last few weeks (always happens when the Olympics are on lol) so I just couldn't answer everyone's prayers. I even had to stop creating famines and earthquakes to make sure I could help as many athletes as possible.
Unfortunately Ryan's prayers weren't up to his usual standard so he wasn't given priority. The Kazakhs really brought their A game with their prayers this year and I was able to help them have their most successful Olympics ever. GREAT SUCCESS!!
I shouldn't be too busy once the NY marathon rolls around so hopefully I can't help Ryan then.
Keep the faith,
God

My point, genius, is that neither Hall, nor Defar are held back by their religious devotion. If Ryan Hall chooses to run without a coach, it's because he's dumb or crazy, not religious.

Same thing.
