Congrats to Mo, but the Ethiopians, Kenyans, Lagat etc should have made it a rat race. The pace was a joke until the last 4 laps. Punks....they were practically asking to lose and they lost...

"Real guts"? Throw a good 800m or 1500m runner in that race and they would have creamed everyone.
Like, say, the bronze medalist from the 1500??

What is your point? This proves the 10k was obviously weak.
Rupp ran 52.63 off a noticeably quicker pace at the trials.
Probably just tired from 10k/off day.

Their British; Mo's British. What part don't you understand??
Oh, I assume they will root for him, but they are beyond over the top. It's great that Mo won do golds in London and all, but they are acting like Ovett, Coe and Cram never existed.

I don't know what his deal was. He should've won.
The 10000 runners were weaker but Rupp still wouldve medaled in this race if he didn't run like an idiot. He made so many unnecessary moves on the curves. To make matters worse, when he was in good position, he let it go without even a fight. Mo ran a super smart race compared to Galen and fought for position even if it meant pushing from 500 out.
Rupp's last 100 was pretty good, but he needs to be in position to use it. Still, he earned his Silver medal and you can't take that away.
Lagat wouldve gotten a medal easily if he didn't get tripped the last 100. Bummer.
What a sloppy race - Lagat unfortunately had to try to jump between two guys in the final stretch because he was so boxed in. I don't even think it was his fault, he never had a chance to break out.
Great run for Mo, though! Watching the reaction of all the BBC commentators was really fun.

Totally disagree!!! I love championship type races!! Save the time trials for the european circuit. Lets see who can really race, lets see who has the guts for waiting and the balls to kick home!! Too many races are boring time trials. We know the all can run sub 13, but we don't know who has real guts.
VERY dumb post. Maybe they should run 16:00 pace. Then that'd REALLY be a race with guts.
No, not overrated. Just exhausted and very young
Talking about Cam Levins
Yes Bren and Cram were OTT, but I think Mo is great. Having said that, there are numerous guys from the past that would have creamed this race. I am stunned the Kenyans/Eths let the race go like that - disappointing.
Conratulations Mohamed.
Epic final 1600m, 3:57.
Slowest Medalists since 1968.
I was disappointed by this race. I wanted Farah, Lagat and Lomong to do well but I was terribly bored.
Kenya and Ethiopia have no team tactics anymore. Did they seriously think their best chance was a flat out sprint against Farah after spotting him the lead? I wanted Farah and Rupp to do well but I was terribly bored by this race. I thought the other would try to burn out a tired Rupp and Farah and lose Lagat. No guts from all of the Paris Diamond League stars.

I take back my original post.
Best post of the night! Yes, I had the same feeling going in, and the same feeling now. Not only slower than the final 5K of the 10K, but MUCH slower.
Mo is the greatest tactician we've seen in a while. He's ALWAYS in front going into the final 100m, usually the final 400m in fact. Just that one fluke 10k in Daegu, which wasn't really his mistake, but besides that, the guy has phenomenal racing instincts. And a ton of talent, obviously. The guy is a total class act, so you've really got to be very happy for him.
Gebremeskel or Lagat or anyone else, if they really wanted to beat him, had to make sure they were in front of him at 400m, but he won't let them, because he's so damn smart and good.

He ran a terrific race and his pushback against the Ethiopian who charged in the final 50 yards was amazing. That was sheer guts. I'm a true-blue American and had a tear or two in my eyes. Every runner on this forum should be inspired by that sort of thing. Sheer balls-to-the-wall force of will.
I don't know if it's the greatest moment in British athletics. I actually thought they said the greatest moment in British track & field. Has England ever had a 5/10K Olympic gold medalist in the distance events? The announcer mentioned Zatopek, Viren, Bekele, and said that Mo had now joined that select company. Hasn't he? If so, what's not to like about the announcing.
Oh, that's right. The preferred American didn't medal. So what? That fact bothers me, too, but some of us are capable of feeling that AND feeling elation at a shrewd, ballsy, perfect race by a guy who was plainly scraping the bottom of the barrel.
I'm sure most of you noticed how puffing tired Rupp looked during and after his 5k heat this week. He had to run second half of The 10k in 13:20 and then turn around and run that pace a few days later in the heats. Makes sense that ge was exhausted today. Frankly, I think Al Sal got greedy by entering him in both. Sure, show your stuff and win both the 5 and 10 at the Trials, but then give up 5 spot to Bumbi and spread the Nike wealth. Ya, I'm a Bumbi fan, having watched him since he was knee -high to a grasshopper, but still this is overcooking Rupp. And thus plan from a coach who says he doesn't want his adopted surrogate son to overdo it like he himself did. Rupp could've waited for some fast Euro races after the Olympics to lower his 5k time even more. Then he goes home happy with his 10k medal and no awful memories.
But,hey, he did accomplish something large in the 10; I'll give him and Ego -Sal that.
We did not see a great runner really .you can see what kenenisa has done at Beijing 27.02 10k 12.57 for5k .this shows how east African do not have new crops of athletes . Shame shame !!!!!!!
