I see that you are a passionate nit-picker. So I must give you some idea about the height averages in the above mentioned basketball powerhouses:
Lithuania 181,3 cm (2001)
Serbia 180,9 cm (2006) + Montenegro
Croatia 180,5 cm (2006-08) + Bosnia and Herzegovina
Australia 178.7 cm (1999-2000)
US blacks 178.0 cm (2003-06)
Greece 178,1 cm (2006-2007)
France 177,8 cm (2006)
Spain 177,3 cm (2000-04)
Russia 177,2 cm (birth cohort 1976-80)
Argentina 174,5 cm (1998-2001)
Turkey 173,6 (2007)
Brazil 173,0 cm (2008-09)
This is not just a list of the tallest nations in the world. In fact, the situation in handball reflects global potential for height-demanding team sports much better, possibly because handball is a much more accessible sport for wider masses of people.
In Argentina, basketball can't be a "minor sport", because the height of the Argentinian team in London is at the 99.96 percentile of the average height. This is a damn strong selection, my dear!
Russia 201,9 cm / 96,1 kg
Lithuania 200,4 cm / 98,8 kg
Spain 200,1 cm /100,0 kg
USA 199,8 cm / 99,4 kg
Argentina 199,1 cm /102 kg
Obviously, not all things are equal. And in team sports, they can never be. Some countries strongly underachieve, others overachieve. It depends on culture and the quality of their sports systems.
