I retract what I said. Studied it the replay again. Her left foot just glanced off the knee of Aregawi, who was just behind and to the inside of her.
Bummer for her.

She caught her left foot behind her right ankle. She tripped herself.
Very sad for Morgan.
I retract my previous. She kicked Aregawi, THEN she caught her left foot behind her right ankle and tripped herself.

It's pretty damning evidence that it's entirely Uceny's fault. She kicks the Ethiopian runner, who is off to the left and behind, with her left foot. Uceny's left foot bounces of the Ethiopian's thigh, and into Uceny's own right calf, causing her to fall, and Uceny almost takes out the Kenyan and the Ethiopian runner.
Nobody clipped Uceny's heel or any of that nonsense. She literally kicked herself in the calf and fell down.
THIS IS AT LEAST THE 8TH TIME I'VE READ YOUR COPY-PASTED SHIT IN 8 DIFFERENT THREADS.
Pizza guy is right. What happened to good sportsmanship where you get up and keep running if you trip and fall?
Imagine what she tells her grandkids, "I fell in the Olympics and I....well... I threw a little tantrum."
She won't be able to tell them, "I fell in the Olympics and I got up and and to the finish line as hard as I could. My legs were even bleeding when I got there."
oops...typo (btw, I'm not crying and hitting the ground right now.)
...I got up and and to the finish line...
s/b ...I got up and ran to the finish line...
what will you tell your grandkids? I didn't run in the Olympics but I was damn good as an anonymous message board poster? Jackass. The bigger the talk the bigger the absence of back up in real life.

Yep. It's right there. Her fault.
When it happens once in a major race, bad luck. Twice, it's the athlete. All the other runners in a slow bunched race stayed up. You know that if it's bunched up like this, something could happen. Stretch things out, take control. Sorry, no sympathy here,

Could you please give us your opinion on how Morgan Uceny fell down?
get up and finish
falling has to be in your plan
cry baby
tell your grand kids you got up and finished
spoilled brat thinking a foot race matters
I think she should have gotten up and kept racing...

So true. And sure, maybe in retrospect, even she wished she'd gotten up and kept running, as she's done in the past. But I totally get the frustration and anger she must have felt at that moment--the "this CAN'T be happening AGAIN!" feeling. She's a human being and sometimes as humans, we can feel overwhelmed emotionally when we take too many blows. It doesn't feel fair. Sometimes even when there's no physical injury, the stuff that happens in the mind can knock a person down with so much force it's hard to recover.
She will, in time, though--and I hope she can put this behind her, find her way back into the mix and next time, at least have the chance to medal.
Some runners go down more easily than soccer players. I feel for the girl, but c'mon, learn to take some contact. Running isn't football and you shouldn't have to fend off tackles, but it is a contact sport to some extent and jostling is part of the race. If you go down every time your foot gets touched, you're going to find yourself sitting on the track a lot.
I'm not trying to be overly critical, but it's discouraging to see our runners let themselves get pushed around. This isn't quite as bad as Solinsky letting some little Ethiopian run him off the track, but it's the same idea. Toughen up. If someone runs into you, let them be the one who hits the track.
I agree she was in good position but needed a 57 to compete for the win & no way was she going to run 57.
Long time reader, first time poster. Uceny chose how that race played out, imo. It's sad she fell, but she chose to remain there, slapping the track with her hands and crying. She could have made a different choice, like Lauryn Williams did after the botched handoff in the 4x100 in Beijing -- she grabbed the baton off the track and ran as fast as she could to finish the race, even tho they lost (and were probably DQ for going outside their lane). I respected Williams for that, and wish Uceny would have done the same thing. Would have generated a ton of respect and love for her... vs pity and a little embarrassment
I feel SO badly for her. wrote:
The race was playing RIGHT into her hands. Basically a 400-800 meter race, and she was positioned to kick with them and have a shot at gold.
She was not in good position. She should have been more towards the front and ready to strike. She hesitated and it cost her.
couldve at least finished the race
