Of the albums that weren't around when this thread was first compiled, "Lost in the Dream" by The War on Drugs merits serious consideration.
"Forever Changes" by Love, with Arthur Lee, remains my top choice.

So much good music listed here so far but anyone who doesn't have Lateralus by Tool listed on their top 5 need to do themselves a favor and listen to it. I mean really listen to it. Listen to it once and focus on the progression of the songs. Then listen to it again and focus on the drumming of Danny Carey. Then listen to it and focus on the mastery of Maynards vocals.
Danny Carey is by far the best drummer of all time. Listen to the album and you will agree. Each song on the album is better than the best song produced by Led Zeppelin.

Neil Peart is by far the best drummer of all time. Listen to any Rush album (other than the self titled) and you will agree.
Fixed that for you!
You're welcome!

Definitely agree with you on the War On Drugs. Their last album - A Deeper Understanding is absolutely great also.
I would say that most everything I've seen on all the lists is pretty legit, with a few exceptions of course
nice work LR, better than I expected
I don't know if Joshua Tree makes my list for top 5 U2 albums. It just hasn't held up for me. Maybe I need to go give it another list.
