He's got the Olympic Record in the bag now!
4:20 gets him 8950, which he should be able to do with NO SWEAT! (Well, maybe some sweat!)
If he doesn't get a better than the 61.29 in the jav, he'll have to run under 4:07 for a NEW world record!
Something tells me he won't feel like doing that!
Last 61.96
61.96 PR!
All he needs is a 4:08 for a NEW WORLD RECORD!
That'll give him 9044!!
GO FOR IT ASHTON!! You can do it! It'll hurt, but you can do it!
Olympic Record IN THE BAG... ONLY a measly 4:29!! CAKE-CITY!!
How much does he need to break 9000? how much does he need to break sebrle's old world record?
4:08.6 for new WR...probably not happening, but then again we're expecting the Javelin PR either
Well 4:08.5 gives him the world record at 9040
4:14.2 gives him 9000. So .28s PR

4:14.21 for 9000 pts even
4:10.51 to equal Sebrle's 9026

He'll break 9000 if he goes 4:14. That'd be just under his PR. Wonder if he'll feel like it, considering he can coast it and win!
There's no way he won't go for the Olympic record... 4:29 will be an easy run for him.
Will they really wait until 4:20 EST to do the 1500m? I thought they were only allowed 30 minute breaks between events... or is that just NCAA level?

After 9 events: 8148, which is 41 pts behind his OT WR pace.
The Gold Medal was his, barring disaster, since the Pole Vault results were final. A new WR will require a 1500m time of 4:08.6 (891) or better. His PR from the Olympic Trials in late June is 4:14.48 (850). A 6.2 second PR is highly unlikely in the 1500.
With perfect weather, fewer attempts in the value, an easy 400...he could be feeling better than heading into his 4:14. Remember he's run a 2:32.6 solo 1k before, which is worth a 4:01... Granted, he's not a mid-d runner so that conversion won't hold up, but the point is, he's fit and can probably handle 66 sec quarters surprisingly well. But asking for a 6 sec PR is A LOT. I'll be surprised if he goes for it but if he does, it will be thrilling.
Are you sure that's an NCAA rule? Back in the day I saw them get a lot more than that at nationals.

4:08 for WR
4:14 to go over 9000
4:29.86 for OR
I'd run for the OR. Enjoy yourself a little, be able to speak when the microphones are shoved into your face. Gotta already be tired as hell.
I think it's AT LEAST 30 minutes, not at most for NCAA.
that canadian warner could surprise for bronze. whats the breakdown between him and suarez? what are their chances?
Kinda funny to see Bray Clay sitting in the stands spectating right next to Christian Taylor's coach (on the triple jump feed). If you didn't know who he was, you would never guess he could be competing for a silver medal at the moment.
