I'm not sure a running message board is the place to get educated about the impact of the United States' economic policies on Mexico and Central America, but given that my even hinting at the facts leads you to tell me "FU!!!!" and call me a dick, I suspect you won't take the actual facts too well.

Finally, realize this: the United States treats Mexico like sh!t. The fact that a person of Mexican ancestry would be willing to put on a United States uniform, compete in the Olympics for the United States, win a medal for the United States, and display the American flag is kind of amazing, really.
What the fock are you talking about????????
We go there illegally, soak up resources, kill over drugs etc etc???
We can't even visit what is a beautiful country without fear of being killed!!!
FU!!!!
Dick!!!
I thought it was awesome. Go Leo!! People like you have made this country great!
People like you, sir, are dragging our country down. With an idiotic statement like that you bring shame to America (assuming you are American). Such idiocy leaves me speechless. Your ignorance and Fox News logic represents the greatest challenge we have in our country.

Yes, my cliche spouting friend. That is our greatest national challenge. Not 15% unemployment, not a crushing national debt, not a worldwide recession, not the rising economic and military power of China, not a nuclear Iran, nope, it's people like me. Who knew?

He didn't say that people like you are the only thing dragging our country down. He just said that people like you are dragging our country down.
To clarify for both the mouth breathers and the libtards .....
Yes, it IS disrespectful for a US-representing athlete to treat the American and the flag of another nation with equanimity in that particular venue.
Yes, Leo was put on the spot by those who gave him both flags, thus there was not much he could do at that point but carry both. I doubt he's had much training in flag protocol anyway.
No, it's not that big of a deal. Let the kid celebrate.
The conversation/debate on this board is stultifyingly ignorant. But not surprising.
I agree with the other poster; back in the day no one who didn't win gold paraded around the track, with or without a flag. You don't win, you congratulate the winner and get the hell off the track. How times have changed...
I'm not big on multiple flag carries. You choose to run for one country. No knock on your heritage, and you can be proud, but everyone in America is from somewhere else originally. Mention it in the post-race interview if you want. But a flag is different; it means something. Ask any historian, read our founding fathers, talk to a vet if you don't get it.
The "La Raza" comments are telling, too. Makes it seem the flag carry WAS premeditated. The National Council of La Raza in DC is a hispanic civil rights organization whose stock in trade is cataloging grievances. They have perfected victimhood to a fine art, and they're still fighting Santa Ana's war.
Finally, the criticism of Fox Newsi is tiresome and old. As if the rest of the media is beyond reproach. Most of you posters wouldn't know a serious poliocy debate if it came in track spikes.

So he didn't have a choice. If someone had handed him an Iranian flag, I guess he would have had to carry it around.
Of course he had a choice. I know if Lagat wins a medal, he will carry only the American flag....
It isn't that big a deal, but it was surprising and disappointing.
BTW, I like the posts that compare our patriotism to the skinhead shooter. Typical msnbc rhetoric. I'm surprised they haven't tried to tie that shooter to the tea party.
What is up with Leo Manzano Celebrating With US and Mexican Flags. Which country give him the opportunity to run for, live in and work for. They say they are proud to be american and then celebrate with another counties flag. I find this disrespectful to the US.

I am utterly disgusted with this post. Sanya richards is from Jamaica and you dont see anyone giving her hassle! No one is a "pure american" unless you are a 100% native american. And to top it off, Mexico originally owned Texas, New Mexico, California and Nevada. So as far as Im concerned he is native born. And if you are all so jealous of a dimunitive hispanic faster than you, then this should encourage more white people to run faster and qualify yourself. This is sad, a website that is supposed to promote the well-being of distance running in america is instead a website that pokes fun of other nations? I thought we were past all the racism and nationalism.. He lifted both flags to display his heritage and journey of the hardwork. Like mentioned before, while you all are thinking of smart comebacks, he is probably getting laid wearing that medal. It sucks for people to bring this guy down because he does so much for the running community as compared to a "secretive galen rupp"
Regardless of whether you agree with this person or not, what is small minded is asking him/her to stop talking just because you disagree. What makes the world better for ALL of us is communication. In case you didn't notice, the original poster posed this as a question, so maybe he/she was actually open to listen. You most likely just alienated him/her, as well as many others by acting as if your opinion was the only one that matters.

Please, please just stop talking if you have a problem with him carrying a Mexican flag. It is completely his right to show some love for where he came from, especially with the American flag draped over his shoulders as well.
Anybody who has a problem with this is really just selfish and small-minded, and theres not anything else to say about it.
Obviously Texas should not be on this list... since he is FROM Texas (after Mexico). And yes, It does bother me. If he wants to run around with a Mexican flag then run for Mexico.
If it bothers you so much address him publicly on twitter or facebook. Or stop by his local fun run in Austin and tell him how you feel. See what he tells you.
I have more respect than ever! Great run Leo!!
I can't believe this is even an issue, let alone one that has reached 135 comments.
Your post is sheer nonsense.
BTW, did Sanya parade the Jamaican flag around??
I do also agree with whoever pointed out that really only the winner should be parading any flag.

Uh... what?
Not saying whether Leo was right or wrong, but it got me thinking about when Lagat won his world titles as an American. He waived around the American flag and not the Kenyan flag (even though he is originally from Kenya).

Huge Leo fan and followed him since his days at Marble Falls HS but this is really making me lose respect for him. Yes, born in Mexico and came to THE country that gave him every opportunity now he brings the Mexican flag along with the US flag. Not cool, Leo.
When you get a silver medal at the Olympic games than you can do whatever you want. Let the man do whatever he wants he earned it.
No "Worst Poster", but I'm referring to the ignorant Americans who think that they are better than any other nation. Or I should say race. And yes, Sanya Richards holds a dual citizenship as well from Jamaica. Check your sources
