That is correct- he was cheering for Hamada Mohammed who was competing for Egypt.

I didn't see the race. Did he just stop and walk off? Dude needs some acting lessons. Should have been cluthing a hammy and waiting for a stretcher.
Prior to reading about all of this on LRC I watched the replays of the 800 heats since I missed them live.
I remember seeing him be announced and thought it was odd that he was running the 800 too considering the overlap. Once the race got started I didn't see him actually with the main pack and assumed he was way off the back. After a few different camera shots I couldn't see him in the race at all. Then right after the final guy crossed the finish I could see him barely jogging in lane 8. The camera focused on him for a bit (looked like he was having a good time with it).
I started to wonder if he somehow got out on the track for a warm up lap since I didn't actually see him in the race itself.
I'm not sure that the race camera showed much of what actually happened though. I'd have to watch it a second time.
He's still listed in the start lists? What's the word?
Now we'll never know if he was dirty. I guess they could still test him. I doubt if he will be targeted. His performance wasn't that crazy unless you really know the 1500. He didn't set a world record, ran much slower than his personal best, pulled away from guys who were coasting into the final rather than running hard to the line. WADA doesn't take orders from Steve Cram.
The only way he was going to be tested was a top 5 finish in the 1500 or a random selection.
Why do people think he is a cheat? There is nothing suspicious about his progression.

What does Steve Cram have to do with this cheat?
In his 1500 semi he did have kinesio tape on his knee and appeared to be limping after the race. It's perfectly reasonable that he has a nagging injury that he thinks he can work through in final but didn't want to risk aggravating more in the 800 first round. Also I think this is a pretty silly application of this rule. The only person he hurts is the next Algerian, if in fact there is another qualified athlete.
Tht's it he willllllllllllllllllllllllll make the finall!!!!!!
Because he had an injury in his leg after the doctor of the Olympic village clinic woooooooooohhhhhhoooooooooooo!!!!!
He will smash every one tomorrow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No doping nothing just small injury and he was honest !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Reinstated according to tweet from Flotrack.
Back in. No surprise. Hope he wins.
Wow there: Calm down stud, take a chill pill and go easy on the exclamation mark!

He will be allowed run. This is weird though.

I'm glad he's back. Dude is a bad ass. The "Rashid Ramzi" comparisons are dumb. The only thing they have in common is the same haircut.
Obvious troll. Try being more subtle.
IOC - Do not fook with us.
If you do we will surely fook you

He is a drug cheat. Wait and see.
Are you and I the only ones who saw him step off the track (to the inside)? Surely not. As far as I am concerned he should be disqualified for not running 1500 meters.
Did anyone else see him step inside the track during the 1500m? Aren't there rules that he has to run ON the track?
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
