Flanagan and Goucher are doing a lot of the work up front early - may not be a smart move - seems the Africans are tucked into the group behind the Americans
As wet as the roads are, they probably feel safer running upfront. Also, the pace is rather slow so drafting isn't that big of an advantage.
I thought the story was, the U.S. didn't designate an alternate. Hastings and Bawcom did the 10K, Deena took herself out of the marathon pool in June... I can't even remember who was after that.

shameful that she even started, she knew weeks ago she was not good to go.
delusional that she kept another off the team.
Not shameful A-hole. She explained in the interview that she had to start to be an Olympian. She earned it and deserved it.
2:30 h pace...hmmm. What happened to Mary PRE Keitany?
Why aren't Shalane and Kara tucked in like Smith?
34:46 at 10k.
Yeah, BBC said that Davila dropped out very early. 10k was 34:46. Just a little under 2:27 pace, so they've sped up a decent bit from the 5k already.
thanks for the bbc link, that stupid interview w that porker lindsay vonn was enough to make me poke my eyes out one for a typical interruption of a live distance event two for having to look at vonn stuffing her face with like 3 dozen deep fried chickens right during the interview
how good is the Chinese, Zou?
The rain and the temps are in many ways ideal - just a drizzle, not heavy rain, it's more like air conditioning

SHAMEFUL SELFISH AHOLE THING TO DO.
CAN'T IMAGINE ANY MALE RUNNER DOING THAT
Yep - the Trolls are up early today.
Haha, yeah.
While i can see it from her point of her view. It is about repersenting the USA. You might have earned it but someone else did too who was also ready to run in case of injury. Its about putting personal pride aside. The alt goes for a reason. She should have never started if the idea of finshing was already out of her head.
Davila deserved her 15 minutes of fame - so disappointing to be injured at the wrong time. The feed I am watching keeps showing the women who are falling off the back - we see the back of the women running; it's so much more interesting to see the lead pack, however, I guess they are trying to please people from all countries by showing all the runners, even the slow and unfit in the back
MASBACK SUCKS AS AN ANNOUNCER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is the WORST EVER
PLEASE NBC send him home and give us Carol Lewis!!!!!
Could you imagne how great this race would be if they used the Tour de France guys?
MASBACK IS THE WORST ANNOUNCER OF ALL TIME
What is with the Brit announcer saying that so and so is a "useful" runner. What does that mean? They should be speaking American. ;)
13k 45:36 = 2:28 pace. slowing a little bit. bloody kenyans are going to cause a pileup - they are ferrying drinks to keitany.
I thought it was illegal to share drink bottles in the Olympics/WC's?

LOL! That's how I heard it too!
There must be 40-50 runners still in the front pack - not yet a challenging pace.
Funny how they show the British runners. 15min of fame for the 2:45 Marathoners... ;)
