Good to see that the Ethiopians can be beaten fair and square.
5K split 14:05.79 - Tadese (who paced 2K to 6K)

Would be great to see him join up with Salazar.

My favourite part is the look in Rupps eyes in the last 400m. He knew he could go with Mo. All the training, all the sacrifice = that look in the eyes when you know you can go..
Awesome.
Tbh I am slightly disappointed... I think Rupp has it in his head that he can't beat Mo. But I think he can. I had Rupp for gold :(
Was this the slowest 10km winning time since 1992? Why did Tadessa and all the strength runners let it go so slow?
After 14:05 split I was expecting a 13:05 last 5km aka like Tergat.

Between 1992 and 2008, every medal in the 10,000 went to a runner of East African descent. (The last non-East African was Salvatore Antibo, who wan silver for Italy in 1988.) Galen is the first (and only) since Antibo.
Dieter Baumann? (1992 1000m Gold)

i loved how as he is crossing the line he is yelling MOOOOOO
There is still the 5000. Remember how that event turned out for the 10000m silver medalist last year...
do not forget that we have the new kids on the block dejene and hagos. Mo is the lucky that ibrahim injured kenenisa injured . To tell u z truth mo did not impress me since he is not as such peroform as kenenisa and haile did the last 15 yr. Only luck

I'm retarded. you said 10,000. I said 1000 but meant 5000. my bad.
world record for number of commercials jammed into a 10k, quite the performance NBC

Agreed.
For the 5KM it's ON. :))))
um, pretty much anyone who's seen the two of them race this year

They should put Rupp on the Wheaties box, and have a rotation of all the athletes that medaled. They could become collectors items.

Dieter won the 5,000, not the 1,000 (which doesn't appear in the OG)--and not the 10,000 either.
Awesome. I'm hoarse. I suspect that the video, when re-watched and kibbitzed, will show that Rupp ran a damn near perfect race. Never lost his cool. He ran a championship race. And took the silver.
You may be sure that if he could have beaten Mo, he would have. But the look in his eyes when he realized that the boys had taken 1-2 was priceless. If you're gonna get beat to the line, it better be by your boy.
A great day for the UK and the USA. Extraordinary night in that stadium, with the UK taking gold, in sequence, in the women's heptathalon, the long jump (white men CAN jump, apparently), and the 10,0000. England hasn't had a night of track like this in how many decades? Ever?
it is clear that the finalists were not on EPO this year.
This is contrast to a decade ago. I am glad to see this.

Well, the Ethiopians and Kenyans will surely not allow the pace at 5000m to be anything but very, very fast after Farah and Rupp did this to them and bid to do it to them a second time at five.
That's what I was thinking. Now that they know how Mo and Galen can close they need to do something about it.
No. They knew it already, it was bloody obvious what Mo/Rupp could do in a kick. They were individually unwilling, which made them collectively unable to take the race out fast enough to prevent a disaster.
Anyone get the last lap? I have the last 1k at ~227 but missed the split on the last lap.
I better revise my 5000 selections. I will put Rupp down for a gold or silver.
