I am just elated to see Leo Manzano win the 1500m silver medal. To the Let’s Run board, this guy has worked his butt off for the last 10 years to no end. I have watched him do every type of workout that makes a great runner: bounding drills only a gymnast perform , intensive abs workouts immediately after a hard tempo runs) repeated over and over during the last several years. Leo never gave up hope. After finishing last in some major meets, many of us would see Leo bounce back doing a hard tempo run two days later in the Texas heat. It was a sign of character and Leo’s persistence. It pained me to read the crap on Let’s Run forum. Now all the forum doubters can stuff it and hopefully try to be more constructive of what it really takes to become the best in the world. Leo Manzano epitomizes what it takes to be a great Olympic track athlete. Leo is a great ambassador to the American middle distance running program. I just hope the Let’s Run forum doubters will start backing Leo. Tonight’s performance was not luck, it was a direct result of years of hard work and incredible dedication.
The entire U.S. running community should be very encouraged for the years to come. Matt Centrowitz ran a fantastic race. Matt’s still young and will continue to get better. He just needs to stay healthy, patient and continue to get stronger.
I hope for the sake of our sport, everyone was clean in tonight’s race. It has been 44 years (Jim Ryan 1968 Mexico) since an American medaled in the 1500m Olympics. Give Leo your support and well deserved congratulations!!!!
