I'm not sure what Rupp or anyone else will be able to close in. However, I am sure about a few things. First, Rupp has a faster PR than any Kenyan in the race (and two of the Ethiopians), substantially better than two of the three Kenyans. This means, of course, that Farah is in the same position. Second, I can't imagine the Kenyans would want to turn the 10000 into a 5000 race, much less a 1000. Third, given KB's times this year, and given his loss at Pre to Farah, it's hard to imagine he does want a hard, fast pace as well. Indeed, the question for both the Kenyans and Ethiopians is how to break Farah, and the choices seem to be either a hard, fast, steady pace, no slower than 13:30 at 5000, or a race filled with surges. I think all three Americans would prefer the former, and whatever slim chance Ritz has to do something great lies with that, for he might then be able to hang onto the back of the pack and pick guys off, if he's on that day. Ritz's hope here might lie with Tadesse, whose only chance whatsoever is fast and steady.
