Yeah I call bs. I will easily drop twice that on a night of dinner and drinks. If I had to guess my non-alcohol related monthly food expenditures, it would probably be between $1200-1500, and I'm definitely not into the posh $200 brunches that many of my friends are. Even takeout from a decent Indian place and a couple beers from the deli and you're looking at $50 for a meal in front of the TV.
Because you make questionable financial decisions, doesn't mean that it's impossible to eat on $83 per month. Straw man much?
I have lived on well under $15k for several of my adult years. One year I was paying rent but eating a few of the week's meals in a cafeteria (for free). Another year I had free room and board - that was easy to live on nothing. I think I made $7k that year. Another year I made $12k and had no expenses covered. I even had a few $$ in savings.
I choose not to live like this anymore because I am willing to pay for eating out occasionally and dressing well. Living in a nicer place and drinking quality beer are nice luxuries too. But that doesn't mean that it isn't possible to live on pennies. I've done it.
