In my experience as a coach and teacher in hs and jr high the cockiest athletes I have been around is an 8th grade basketball player, especially the best player in the school. Happens every year when they get to 8th grade (6-8 school). If any other middle school teachers are out there, they will agree.
Holy Crap YES.
Arne Gabius
Lauren Fleshman is the cookiest athlete. She makes cookies for crying out loud!
Everyone keeps pointing out loud a vocal people that use aggressive tactics to intimidate and screw with people. You can't compare someone in football talking smack during the game as cockyness.
The best example of cocky attitude would be Ricky Bobby, talking all sorts of smack about being the best their ever was the best their ever will be, after he has won. You don't see Bolt talking trash about the other competitors and their futile attempts to beat him in a race, very few football players brag about their abilities after a Pro game.
Most professional athletes are either great sportsmen or forced to hide it.
Most of you are just butthurt runners that got beat in another sport because you allowed someone to play the mental game of talking trash and you automatically assume that is a cocky attitude.
Kordell Stewart anyone?

What are you -- an eighth grader? Oh, look how clever I am! Putting a period in a swear word to seem shocking and impressive.
You're probably some slow 18 minute 5K runner without much of a life (or maybe you come from a dysfunctional family; I don't know).
Pre was a bit cocky, yes?
Ovett, a wee bit headstrong. Backed it up pretty good.
The cockiest ever, Ali of course. He was a great athlete, and he stood up for oppressed people everywhere. He was not afraid of greedy racist war mongers. He was not interested in being cannon fodder for the latest Napoleon to come on the scene. He was a hero similar to Tommie Smith and John Carlos in the stand he took.
Asu guy,you are a thoughtless individual. You are accusing Usain of being a drug cheat when he has never tested positive for any banned substance. How could or any other person on this forum go ahead and make these accusations. His club mates who tested positive for some Mild stimulants were just innocently trying a new American supplement that was being introduced to them by an American friend do your research for which they received 4 months bans.If you as an athlete should drink a little too much Red Bull and tested positive for Caffiene you also would receive a 4 month ban. Please stop this wickedness and give the Jamaicans their time to shine. What the Americans need to do now is to get their young sprinters for example Bracy,Aaron Ernest,Tyreek Hill and company in special programs with the best American Sprint coaches in a quest to disrupt The Jamaican dominance of the sprints. The times that Bolt is recording now could have been done by Tommie Smith but personally I don't think those guys were working as hard as they should. So please it is not nice to see after all the hard work by the Jamaican athletes you come and accuse them of being doped up.Carl Lewis is my favourite sprinter of all times and the stimulant that he had tested positive for could not have boosted him to his 4 Gold medal performances,he was just exceptional.Track and Field is more tainted by accusations than the use of drugs. Please let us enjoy the games.
I'm inclined to agree with this. I look at it differently. Sure, a lot of these athletes are arrogant, cocky, out-of-touch, etc, but most if not all are relatively successful, accomplished athletes, some making it professionally in their respective sport.
I feel though, the cockiest athletes are these low-life, trash-bag, middle school and high school athletes, even some in college, who walk around as though their sport is what the world focuses on. The lower level type guys who get special treatment in middle school or high school or college due to their ability to do well in said sport, even if it is for some very small division or district within their state. These are the cockiest athletes. They go on to barely finish high school, or go to college but flunk out after their eligibility runs out, or graduate thanks to having their hands held and walked through courses or just have their course work done for them. All the while these kids have this feeling of importance and significance which is underserved. No respect for actual human beings within the community and disregard for any and all rules or guidelines of normal human functioning. These are the "cockiest" athletes out there. They go on to do nothing more than encourage others to be like them and talk about the old days when their team could have won the state or national title, or maybe even did win, but due to their inability do more than play a sport, they never made it pro and became a scumbag of society.
These are the types who give little to no respect to others, because they, at one point in their life, were treated as gods. They walk around talking about how they "would have made it professionally" had someone not ruined their chances.
These are the cockiest athletes you'll ever meet.
Alberto Tomba.
Eric Cantona .
Look up goal against Sunderland
Ali
John McEnroe
ummmmm, how has no one said cristiano ronaldo yet??
Agreed on Bolt. Anyone that can't give it their all and keep their egos in check during a short ten second race doesn't deserve tons of praise in my book. Sprinting is about giving 100% for a short period of time and hoping for the best. The fact that he actually looks left and right during a 100m FINAL is ridiculous![quote]Jason Rahm wrote:
