I disagree but at the same time its not that crazy. As you say, after Kiprop nobody has looked exactly unbeatable.

A few weeks ago I was a Nick Willis fan.

After adding him to my tweet Olympic peeps...I am now so tired of the guys incessant tweeting...that I don't care how he does.

Actually tweeting for advice on how to carry his nations flag?

This is funny because I started following him because I thought he didn't tweet that much. I don't think you understand how often some people tweet. Willis is not addicted to Twitter.

is Kiplagat not running? Any doped Moroccans or Bahrainis?

Willis barely tweets at all. I unfollowed though after I found out he's a god botherer.

Yeah he is a god botherer alright. Kind of a buzz kill. I prefer if people keep there religion private, classy.

BUT MAN is he tweeting like a chick these days. I think he's had a lot of down time, maybe time away from the wife, maybe hyped up from the Olympics and his great effort in Monaco. I'd almost say it is worth following him...to see whether he is going to be amusing or off the rails...

And he's not just tweeting every ten minutes (or so it seems) It's not just the hyperactive tweeting...but the tweeting, and then the the retweeting.

I was going to unfollow him, but he is so active, like a dog in heat, that it is getting funny...and he is starting to retweet some funny stuff.

Nick Willis has a shot at medaling. But I see a Kenyan sweep. Asbel,kiplagat,the other Kenyan under 3:30 and then Willis.

Willis is looking better than when he medalled in 2008.

He has the 5th fastest time going in and is pretty savy.

Kiplagat is a pretty fierce competitor.

He won Doha. He won the Kenyan Trials. And he just won that mile race in London.

He also had 3 major wins last year to go with his Silver and a couple major wins in 2010.

Chepseba had 4 major wins last year, including a win in Zurich, but he didn't make top three at the Kenyan Trials so he didn't make their team (lucky for Centro).

This year he has been under 3:30 twice, winning in Hengelo and just beating Willis in Willis' PR race.

Chepseba did make the Kenyan team this year.

And then there is Kiprop.

Tough road to break up the Kenyan trio.

Best 1500m team since the Brits in 1984. But even they didn't sweep as Ovett dropped out.

I think the reality is this - none of us have a frikking clue. Seriously.

Last year before Daegu Nick ran 3.31.7 and it was the same garb - 'championship guy with a fast time now who doesnt mess up and runs smart' - what happened? Lucky to even make the final then finished dead last.

In 2008 he hadn't been in great shape going in (on paper) and what happened - the silver.

At this level it is next to impossible to predict this. There is no El Guerrojou type figure anymore.

For those who think Kiprop is an absolute shoe in for the gold let me take you back to 2009, a year after Beijing where the dude had won everything then goes to Berlin and runs like Robbie Andrews and doesnt even medal.

Nick is in great shape RIGHT NOW, ran great in his last outing but aside from Beijing has some pretty mixed results in big races (2nd, 10th, 12th in major finals). Will he medal? No idea - and thats the beauty of our sport.

It is "shoo-in" folks. It has nothing to do with shoes.

Willis is not a sure bet for a medal, but a very strong contender.

Shoo-in Shoe in Tony Shalhoub in. All the same to me.

Laalou is probably doped. He could def medal

No one is a safe bet in the 1500m because there are too many variables, a fall (El G in '96, Uceny and Jamal last year), dopers (Ramzi in 2005 and 2008), asthma (Ovett in '84), illness and injury (Webb in 2007), the rise of the next great star (Coe at 800m in 1984 (Cruz's sudden rise)). In 2000, Ngeny was very close to El G's level, a 3:43 guy, and in that race, El G's Moroccan pacer got into the lead ahead of El G just before the 200m mark and only just got to 800m and after going through 400m in 54.14, he slowed down to a crawl of 60.x to 800m at 1:54, and so El G had a 700m drive to the finish out in front with Ngeny and Lagat drafting off him until 1450m. Had El G's teammate run 54/57 (1:51) and gotten him to 1100m or 1200m, it might have been a different story, as it was even in the world record mile when Ngeny drafted the whole way off of El G but couldn't quite get past him at the end.
